For my daughter's two year birthday party I wanted to something different, yet simple because her birthday is around Christmas. So I came up with the idea from the popular song
"Butterfly Kisses".
I made on the computer pastel worded invitation stating "Come give Alyssa Butterfly Kisses as she turns 2. Date Time Place Then I printed the words out on white card stock (two sets fit on one page)So then I cut them smaller to fit onto pastel colored paper that was cut into the shape of a butterfly (very easy for non-artists, like me). Glue or tape together and decorate with little dots and lines with more pastel puff paint like a butterfly, then take iridescent curling ribbon and curl it, tape it to the top, back of the butterfly for it's antennae. Then I had the neighbor lady make one of her wonderful cakes and decorate it. Again very easy for any bakery or cake decorator to do. (They also have butterfly shaped cake pans.) We had a rainbow of pastel colors for the service ware and tablecloths. Then we cut tissue paper out into butterfly shapes with fishing line taped to it and tied it to the light fixture in the dining room and lots of iridescent pastel helium balloons. For our drink we made light clear pink punch. Then froze water in a angel food cake pan with silk flowers in it. Then I found some silk butterflies that I put on the punch bowl rim with a little bit of frosting. (just take a tablespoon of shortening and powdered. sugar mix it to a paste.) For favors we made little brown paper bag "cocoons" and filled with little candies and a dollar store trinket for either a boy or girl. Just take the brown bag and wad it up then smooth it out fill and secure with an earth tone curling ribbon or yarn and name tag. This is a simple party that is very sweet for a special little girl. We also had a "Little Golden Book" of the song "Butterfly Kisses" we had all the Grandma's, Grandpa's, aunts and uncles sign it so she will always have that memento. For party hats for the small ones we took cheapo headbands and twisted pipe cleaners around them for antennae. The centerpiece for the dining room table was a cake pedestal (for varied height)with silk flowers and butterflies in pastel colors. Flowers like the daisy were used to be more child-like.
