City Camping My four year old child wanted a camping party. Since spending the night outside was out of the question with a group of four year olds, we reserved a city park that was very
wooded and rustic and planned the party for early evening.
We set up a large tent in the grass as the staging area for the evenings activities. (It was great place to put the presents-all of the wrapping paper was easily contained inside when he began to open everything. All of his friends sat in the tent while he unwrapped.) His cake was decorated with a tent, campfire and small trees. We had all of the children and their parents roast their own hot dogs over a campfire. After dinner we roasted marshmallows over the remaining coals. For favors each child received a backpack made from a brown grocery bag with straps of felt and inside there was a bug net, a flashlight and a small compass. After dinner we released 1,500 live lady bugs that we bought at the garden center. The children used their bug nets to catch the lady bugs as they began to fly away. They had a great time chasing the bugs. As it got darker, we led the children on a nature walk while they used their flashlights and compasses to find their way back to the campsite. The children and the parents all had a great time!
