I wanted a CandyLand theme for my twins' 2nd birthday. There isn't much out there in the way of this so I improvised a little. I first found some large character cutouts on Ebay to start with.
I also found the recipe and idea for a CandyLand game board cake from my Taste of Home magazine. You can search for this recipe on line. Instead of baking the cake myself, I ordered a 1/2
sheet plain white cake from my local BJ's Wholesale Club. All they did was spray the green on the top for me so that it would look like grass. Then the morning of the party all I had to do
was decorate it. My sister and I did this in about an hour. It came out awesome and is best assembled the day of the party. The most time consuming part was unwrapping all the Starbursts,
etc. which can all be done ahead of time if necessary.
For the invitations, I found a person on the internet who custom made the most beautiful invitations with this wording: Kind Kandy, Lord Licorice, Princess Lolly, just to name a few, Are all invited as Kaitlyn and Breanna turn 2! Come join us in Candy Land! Date, Time, Place, Don't get stuck in Molasses Swamp! RSVP before date... They were even customized to have a brown haired Candy kid and a blonde haired Candy kid on them to look like my girls. I used the squares from the Candyland DVD interactive game to lead a path from my driveway to my front door. I had colorful balloons everywhere. Along the path I also had wrapped candy strewn about. I lined the driveway with those large canes that people sometimes have out at Christmas time. (Found on Ebay after Christmas for a deal!!)Around the instead of the house I had the print outs of each character and a description for each (found on the Hasbro website) as well as info about the history of the game. For the food, we just did snacks and pizza, but also did have Candy everywhere. I went to the dollar store and bought about 12 clear plastic canisters and filled each one with a different type of candy. Examples: Lord licorice sticks (red and black licorice), Princess Lolly's Lovely Lollipop assortment, Gramma Nutt's Peanut Brittle, etc. The sky is the limit!! I used Avery 2 x 4" labels (10 to a sheet) to print out the tags and stuck them on. Now that the party is over I found a woman on the Internet who custom made adorable jeans and blouses with candy patches on them and puffy polka sleaves and ruffles. They looked absolutely adorable. They also wore Mary Jane styled Crocs with Candy themed Jibbitz charms. They will fit this summer too. For the goody bags I found little colorful bags at Oriental Trading to hold all the goodies. The contents included: a Candy Land pencil Candy Land stickers Candy Land tattoos (all found on Ebay) assorted candy and a new toothbrush and small tube of toothpaste. I didn't want any dentist bills afterwards!! Since there aren't any plates etc. with the theme of Candy Land I just went to my local party store and bought solid colored plates cups etc. in a variety of colors. They matched well with the balloons. All in all it was a great party and I received many compliments. Now time to plan their third birthday!! "
