For my daughter's 4th birthday, we had a Candyland birthday party.
She loves to play the game so we thought this would be appropriate. Using some of the ideas from this website, this is what we came up with. I made the invitations on the computer. I made a border of Candyland colored rectangles. The invitation read It's a Candyland Party! Please join Queen Frostine Lolly and the other Candyland characters as we celebrate Emily's 4th birthday". I printed the invitations on white paper and matted the invitation on Candyland colored cardstock. For the party I wanted plenty of space so we rented a building. As the children arrived we had a table set up and they were given clear cellophane bags to decorate with stickers and markers. These were used to collect their prizes along the way and ultimately be their goody bags. Once the bags were decorated they had to enter the room through the Candyland castle that my mom and I had drawn cut out and colored on a 4' x 8' piece of cardboard. The castle was just like the one on the playing board. We made a door in the middle of the castle and hung one of those gold curtains that you can get at a party store for the kids to walk through. Inside the room we used construction paper the same colors of the game board and placed them on the floor in that order and pattern. We had several different stations along the way. The kids followed the path from station to station. The first station was Plumpy. I had taken a large indoor plant from my home and hung purple Christmas balls for decorations. To get past Plumpy the children had to throw balls into a basket. Once they did they got a prize. The children would then walk along the path to the next station which was a combination of the Gumdrop Pass and Jolly. There the children made candy necklaces with fruit loops gummy life savers and cheerios. I would suggest anything with big holes that is easy to string. Next they walked past peanuts that I cut out of cardboard and colored to look like peanuts. They were about 12 inches long. They were hot glued to dowels I bought at Michaels. We then drilled holes the same size of the dowels into a 2x4 that was cut into small blocks to allow the peanuts to stand up. This led them to see Gramma Nutt. There we had a big bucket filled with unshelled peanuts. The children had to dig through the nuts to find a prize. For the next stop they had to walk by Princess Lolly's lollipops. For the lollipops I took cardboard and cut out circles about 10 inches in diameter. I then hot glued them to the top of the wooden dowels. Then I covered the cardboard circles with different colors of cellophane and tied with coordinating curling ribbon. To make them stand up we did the same thing as the peanuts and drilled holes into a 2x4 piece of wood cut into small pieces and stuck the lollipops in the wood. The kids loved the lollipops! At this station we had tons of foam cut outs and the kids decorated their own foam door hangers. (I bought all of the foam pieces on sale at Michaels.) Lastly the children stopped by to see Queen Frostine. We decorated this area with tons of different sized paper doilies. At this station they got to decorate their own cupcake. Once they were done we had an area for the kids to play until everyone else was done. Then they all gathered around their cupcakes and sang happy birthday ate their cupcakes and then opened presents. For the tables we used different colored tablecloths that matched the Candyland colors. To decorated the tables I went to Sam's Club and bought a huge bag of dum-dum suckers and scattered them in the middle of each table. The children added those to their goody bags also. Needless to say their goody bags were stuffed when they left the party! For the prizes I found party favors on clearance at Wal-Mart such as water guns and candy watches. To make things run as smooth as possible I had an adult or two at each station to help the children as they passed through and pass out the prices. "
