CandyLand Party 13yr- OK, this year, I'm turning thirteen, so I wanted my party to be really special. Alright, I know what you're thinking. A Candyland themed party for a 13 year old? But that isn't how it sounds. INVITATIONS: For the invitations, I would make the envelopes to look like candy bar wrappers. The invitations inside would look like the candy bars and say something like "King Candy and Candyland ar in danger! Play your way through Candyland to help save the day and celebrate my ____th birthday!" (Not the best, but oh well) and each invitation would come with a character assignment (such as Queen Frostine, Red Game piece, Lord Licorice, etc.) to dress up as during the party. Make sure to tell them to bring extra clothes and pajamas if its a sleepover. ACTIVITIES: What do you do at a Candyland party but play CandyLand? To make the game board, I would just make the squares and bridges and things like that out of cardboard pieces and color them to look exactly like the game board. Make sure you make the character squares too! Keep in mind that there might be more players than in the original game. To make the game cards that detirmine your next place on the board, make your own by using old decks of cards that have some missing or buy a cheap new deck just for the game. Just tape or paint colored squares onto the cards. For character cards, just write the name of the character on the card. Have someone sit in the middle of the board and call out cards for the characters, as they will be standing on their place. The card caller can even dress up like King Candy! To detirmine who wins the game, assign points for certain squares like Blue, 1 point; Double Red, 6 points; Any square with a black dot, minus one point. If a player lands on the same square as their character, award them three points. Since there will be more players than there are character squares, have two players share a character square (i.e. Plumpy and Green Game Piece can share Plumpy's square). Ask someone to keep track of everyone's points on a dry erase board. The winner also gets a certain amount of points. To shorten the game, when someone wins, the game is over. The winner's prize is a giant chocolate bar. Other smaller prizes can be awarded for second place, third place, etc. Play other games too, don't let it stop there! Have a contest for best costume and have every one vote! Don't let people vote for themselves, though. Model your costumes and video tape it. If someone commentates the fashion show, that will only make it better!! At the end of the night, watch a candy related movie like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. You can also play traditional birthday party and sleepover games like truth or dare. FOOD: For snacks, provide chips, pretzels and licorice and other candies. If you can, get uncommon candies that aren't very popular. Dinner, obviously, can't be very candy-related, so just stick with the regular pizza. The cake, however, should be really original. If you want, add bits of fruity candy like Dots or GummiBears to the cake batter. Shape it and decorate it like a big candy bar. Cupcakes would be a good idea, or, if you really want to be different, have those little mud snacks with the chocolate pudding, oreo crumbs and gummiworms and put candles in the birthday girl's! Drinks can be just pop and other things like that. Kool-aid is also a good drink because it's usually candy associated.  DECORATIONS: Have lots of bright colored streamers and ballons. On the table, instead of having glitter or confetti, put mini candy bars. If possible, get posters advertising different kinds of candy or make your own! For the party favors, send them in the mail with a tape of the Costume Fashion show, a box of candy, and a picture of everyone in a picture frame. Also include their character card from the deck from the game. Include a thank you note in the package. You can make the package look like a box of candy. I promise you this will be a great party to throw for anyone! Fun is guaranteed. So if you want to have a super-great party, the Human CandyLand game is an excellent choice!
