For my daughter's 1st birthday, we had a "Candy Party."    Invites were a colored, scanned picture of her mounted on bright colored cardstock to match the Candyland colors. To the corners of the photos I glued Skittles or Smarties. The info was on the inside on candy-stamped paper.(www.closetomyheart.com)   Outfit was a white summer dress my mom sewed candy buttons on to.(Joann's)  Decorations were 75 balloons in Candyland colors atop tables in the same colors. (Party City) Each table had a placemat game I made on the computer. I took 12 photos, one from each of her first 12 months. Guests had to put the photos in the correct order. Adult prize was a restaurant gift cert. Kid prize was a Candyland beach towel game. I also put all of her photo albums out, so people could see how much she'd grown. At an art fair,I bought a journal made from an old Candyland game as the cover.  Guests were asked to write a birthday wish in it. After the party, I also glued her cards in there. Tissue garlands were strung across the windows.(Oriental Tr.Co.)It was very bright & festive.   The big hit w/ the adults was a 3-tier CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN we rented. We had fruit, cookies, marshmallows, cream puffs, graham crackers, rice krispies, etc. to dip into the flowing chocolate. YUMMY! The hit w/ the kids was the old-fashioned Candy Shop. I bought 20 glass jars and dispensers (Target/Crate & Barrel) & filled them w/ m&m's, gummy bears, Swedish fish, gumballs, licorice, candy buttons, malt balls, candy necklaces & bracelets, rock candy, blow pops, etc. Each kid got a huge candy bag and was allowed to fill it up just like at the candy store. I put the jars on a low table so they could reach them. They were so excited when they found out they didn't have to have them weighed or pay for them! Food was about 25 types of appetizers: some homemade and others from Costco. All mini-sized: quiches, corn dogs, pizzas, wings, egg rolls, etc. The kids loved the mini-burgers the best.  Something for everyone.  Since she was only one, her b-day was in Aug in AZ, and there were over 50 people here, we didn't play games.  I had a Candyland game set-up on a table, but the kids were too busy runnning around playing w/ the balloons. We did have Guess the Jelly Bellies in the Jar w/ the winner getting the jar. For the cake I ordered a plain white one from Costco, then used candy to decorate it like the game. I placed the game pieces at the beginning. For the trail: starbursts. Plumy: purple skittles on a sugar cookie tree. Peppermint forest: mini-candy canes.  Gumdrop pass, Lord licorice, & Princess lolly were those candies.  Gramma nut=circus peanuts. Molasses swamp=sugar daddys & sugar babies. King kandy castle=ice cream shaped lolly pops.  It was so easy to do. Just unwrap the candy! And it was too cute! We got a huge traditonal-star pinata in the same Candyland colors & filled it with unique candy I had been collecting from various stores. (spin pops, candy that came with lil games attached, gummy burgers & fries, etc.)I also took lil boxes, filled them w/ quarters or dollars, and wrapped them up in tissue paper. So when they were unwrapped, the kids got a lil surprise. Target also carried a Candyland card game, so I put 5 of those in there, too.  Each kid got to take home their own Candyland board game. Moms were calling to say they'd been playing Candyland for weeks after the party. And everyone's wondering what she'll have this year!
