Candy Land Party
For my daughter's 3rd birthday, I chose to do a Candy Land theme. For invitations, I picked up some Candy Land scrapbooking stickers, and made cards announcing that King Kandy requested their presence at Kandy Kastle (our address, the time and date), and then included a little poem stating that "We think it would be just grand if you'd join Becca in CANDY LAND!" We started the party by having the guests play Candy Land while waiting for everyone to arrive. When the game was over, and someone rescued King Kandy from Lord Licorice, we read a letter from King Kandy expressing his gratitude for their help and telling them that to say thank you, everyone from Candy Land had something for them. The children then received letters from each of the characters in the game (identified by their picture cut out of a scrapbook paper that has the entire board game on it) with instructions for a different game. For Plumpy, I tied "plums" (purple balloons filled with treats) to an apple tree with low hanging branches, and pinned a gingerbread face to the trunk of the tree. The children then had to grab a balloon, bring it back to their personal basket, & pop the balloon before they could get another "plum". For Mr. Mint, I filled our kiddie pool with peppermint candies and styrafoam peanuts claiming that a snow storm covered all of the candy canes in peppermint forest, and the kids were welcome to have whatever they could find. For Jolly we played "Hide the Thimball" (the hotter/colder game) with gumdrops fresh from Gumdrop Mounntain Princess Lolly invited the guests to make lollipop crowns as a thank you for saving her dad. Gramma Nut's letter told the children to go inside for her favorite lunch -- peanut shaped peanut butter sandwiches, and Cake & Ice Cream provided by Queen Frostine. The Candy Land cake was one of the most fun cakes I ever made. I found Jelly Bars, which are rectangular gumdrops, and cut them up to make the squares on the candy land board, and then made each of the main stops in candy land from different candies. (mostly marzipan, gumdrops, and taffy with ice cream cones for Kandy Kastle). In addition to the PBJ's, we also served lollipop veggies (carrots, cucumbers, & raddishes all cut into circles & stabbed in the bottom with a toothpick) plums, and gumdrop shaped jell-o. For a centerpiece, I just added a dozen or so large gumdrops attached to bamboo skewers covered in floral tape to an existing arrangement of brightly colored tulips. It was a great success!
