Candyland birthday party: My daughter's favorite game was Candyland, so for her 5th birthday party we made it a Candyland theme. Out of large cardboard, I cut and painted the
shapes of the gingerbread boy game pieces and stood them in the front foyer. I cut colored squares from construction paper, and using contac paper I created a path down the hall and to
the basement where most of the party was held. I put up signs made by copying the characters off the game board on a copy machine to designate centers where different activities would
take place.
One was the Ice Cream Sea where the children could play in a pretend ice cream parlor. Our local ice cream store gave me some containers to use. Another center was King Kandy's Castle where I had printed pictures of different kinds of candies off the internet and the children could glue them as well as craft materials on wooden bird houses that I found at the dollar store in order to make "candy houses". In the Lollipop Woods, the children decorated cardboard circles with spin art and then we glued them onto real lollipop sticks to make lollipops. For the birthday cake, I bought an undecorated sheet cake with white frosting. I cut different colored fruit roll-ups into squares and used them to make the Candyland path on top of the cake. I stuck in little candy canes and the game pieces from a real Candyland game. We also had a treasure hunt in which we hunted for the evil Lord Licorice. We never found him, but fortunately he left behind lots of good treats!
