My daughters favorite game is candyland. For her 6th birthday party we decided to have a candyland party. First I rented a room at the local community center. Next I got several large pieces of cardboard from the back of a local furniture store and painted each of the characters on the cardboard they each stood between 3-5 feet high. I drew the characters free hand from the game board a image projecter may have made this task easier. Then I bought construction paper and lined up the construction paper and made a maze around the floor that duplicated the gameboard. To attach the paper I used blue painters tape so that it would not leave a sticky film to the hardwood floor. I them cut out and arranged the candyland characters around the room, the characters that did not lean against the wall I added a base to the back like a picture frame to make them stand. I then put candy in each place that children could gab as they played the game. For lord licorice I used chocolate licorice, for grandma nut I used nutter butter cookies in a basket, for Mr. Mint (most kid's do not like mint candy) so I used the candy filled straws. For Jolly I used Dots candy, for princess lolly I set up a long piece of styra foam also from furnite store and painted it green and set up lolly pops growing like flowers. For queen frosteen I used cotton candy, and for plumpy I used berry flavored gummy lifesavers. To add to the candy effect I bought at least 30 bags at 10cents each on clearance after easter grass in various colors and mixed them all together in a large trash bag and placed them around the candyland characters to hide the bases. To save time we used the original cards from her candyland game, the kids teamed up in two's and walked through candyland together. The team that made it to king candy each got a certificate that I printed from my daughter's candyland computer game. I set up three long tables and put bright colored plastic table clothes over them lime, yellow and hot pink. I decorated the table by placing three suckers I cut out and painted with happy birthday to my daughter and covered them with plastic wrap and ribbon to look like real suckers growing from the ground. I them bought jelly belly's, gold coin bubble gum, gum balls and any other colorful little candys and spread them all over the table. I decorated the table with bright orange plates, and silverware, with lime green napkins. I used small clear plastic cups with neon staws and stuck candy orange slices on the edge of each cup. The punch was made from sierra mist and lime sherbert a great combination. The cake was a big challenge, not finding one that looked like candyland my mother in law agreed to decorate one. We bought a plain sheet cake and round cake to set on top. We made the path with lifesavors added lolly pops decorated upside down icecream cones,(a couple of weeks before the party I ordered extra candyland plastic playing pieces to use as cake toppers) with frosting we attached them to the lifesavor path. As for party favors the kids each decorated white paper sacks for thier own original candy bag, they each got to take home minature balls that looked like gumballs (oriental trader)that we had blown up and placed all over. Easter eggs that looked like giant jelly beans, I also took paper plates glued the together and painted them to look like M&M's. The kids took home all the candy, plus any of the cardboard characters they wanted to. This party was a huge success and everyone is still talking about it.
