Candy Land - 5yo My Daughter just turned 5 and wanted a party for boys and girls. Her favorite game is candy land so I made a party out of the game. I collected empty boxes from stores and cut out cardboard ginger bread men. It was very simple to make. To make them stand I cut slits into each foot and put a piece of cardboard in the slit. We painted each one in red, blue, green and yellow before the party and left them blank so the kids could decorate them with markers and stickers as our party craft. I also bought small plastic buckets at the dollar store that the children decorated with candy stickers. We wrote their names on the bucket and gingerbread man and they were ready to play the "game". We use a package of construction paper to make a colored path for the game board and taped the paper to the floor with clear packing tape to make the path.  We took a digital picture of each character on the game board and printed it from the computer to make a candy "station" just like on the game board. At every station there was a candy for that character. Plumpy -large purple gum balls.( I picked them out of the loose candy dispenser) Mr.Mint- starlight mints,  Lord Licorice- twizzlers, Jolly-gumdrops, Gramma nut-circus peanuts, Princess lolly- swirl pops (any lolly pops will do), Queen frostine- Marshmallow candy ice cream cones, Gloppy- small Hershey bars,  King Kandy- small bags of cotton candy. (I split large bags into sandwich bags.)  Much of the candy came loose so I wrapped each loose piece in plastic wrap. We placed each picture and bowl of candy at each "station" on the floor near the path. Each child picked a card (I used the cards from the game but only the single colors) and they moved their cardboard ginger bread man to the appropriate color square. At each candy station they passed, they took one candy from the bowl and put it into a small plastic bucket. The game was over when they reached king kandy. We played till each child made it through the game and picked up all their candy prizes. After the game we had cake and ice-cream. I bought a sheet cake from the store bakery and asked for it to be frosted with white frosting and left blank. I made the candy land game on the top of the cake. I used chicklets for the colored path and used the extra candy to decorate the candy "stations". I printed a small picture of each character cut it out and taped it to a tooth pick and stuck it at each candy station on the top of the cake. Before everyone left we took a picture of each child with their ginger bread man and used the pictures to make thank you notes. Each child took home their prize bucket full of candy and ginger bread man as party favors. this was a very inexpensive party. We had 15 children and the total was under 100 dollars for everything. This amount includes balloons and papers good that were not mentioned in the preparations of the game. My daughter had a blast and the parents at preschool have been talking about it for weeks.
