Candy Land Party For my son's 4th birthday, I decided to have a "live" Candy Land game. I used the board game as the basis of the party.  I made a path of taped construction paper end to end on the floor.   Next, I had several people dress up as the characters in the game. My two teenage neices dressed as Princess Lolly and Queen Frostine. They enjoyed wearing their old prom dresses and spraying their hair with glitter.  Princess Lolly put lollipops in her hair, and Queen Frostine wore a dollar store tiara. Mr. Mint (changed to Ms. Mint)also dressed up in a white sweatsuit and was wrapped in red duct tape (because in Arkansas duct tape is used for everything!). She also sprayed her hair white and had a red and white bow in her hair and red and white toe socks on.  Lord Licorice was changed to Lady Licorice and was dressed in all black.  The birthday boy was King Kandy. He had a homemade red cape and a crown that was purchased at a local party supply store.  All the characters greeted the guests upon arrival. To begin, I read the story that is in the board game that explains each character. Each character came out in "fashion show" style during the story. After their turn they took their place along the construction paper path. When that was over, the game began. I drew the cards from the board game for each child. When the child was in a character's area, they received a prize from him or her.  Plumpy gave out green apples (although the story calls for plumbs), Ms. Mint gave out peppermint candies,  Lady Licorice gave out Twizzlers, Jolly gave out Jolly Ranchers (although the game can also call for gumdrops), Princess Lolly gave out lollipops, Queen Frostine gave out coupons for a free Frosty from Wendy's, Gloppy gave out chocolates, and King Kandy gave out a royal ring (candy Ring Pops) and a Burger King crown. The game was a success and the adults enjoyed the show as much as the children.
