For my daughters 4th Birthday we created a life sized Candy Land game in our backyard.
When the kids arrived they saw a big balloon arch with the Candy Land banner at the gate, and we had tarped off the play area to the game, yeah right ask 4 yr olds to be patient!! When everyone had arrived the tarps were taken down and lo and behold CANDY LAND. Each child was given a bag for their prizes, and the game began. I had rug samples as the gameboard path, and spray painted them to match the game cards I had made from 8x10 pieces of cardboard. Some lucky adults were in costume as the characters at each station. I used big 18" candy canes (from Christmas) for Mr. Mint. I used Christmas balls for Plumpys area, for the gumdrops, I cut the ends of 2 liter soda bottles and painted them, dusting sugar on the wet paint. For lollipops I used the big plastic pixie sticks and added a painted foam circle to the top along with cellophane wrap. I took all different sized plastic soda bottles and wrapped them in tissue paper twisted the ends and poof... a giant wrapped candy -these I just placed throughout the game. Each Adult gave the children prizes as they passed through their area to add to their bag. My husband playing King Candy had a cape loaded with candy wrappers and a crown and he waited behind my daughters plastic play house (which had been decorated for the occasion) for the first child to find him. The party was a HUGE success!!
