For my daughter's 2nd birthday party, we had a Candy Land Theme.
The party was held outdoors at our local community park pavillions. Since we had alot of space to play with, my husband picked up 2 dresser-sized boxes from a local furniture store, free of charge. One box we broke down and free-hand characters from Candy Land including gingerbread men and tree and Lolli with gumdrops and lollipops. The gum drops we sprayed with adhesive and sprinkled glitter over. The lollipops were on dow rods, which we decorated with paint and glitter, then covered with cellophane wrap. We used the characters and candy to line the walk way to the pavillions as well as the picnic area. The second box we made into Candy Castle by cutting a rounded entrance and exit for the kids to pass through, as well as a gum ball machine on the side (using halved paper towl roll painted in metalic paint as the spout) and castle tops rolled from colorful poster board. We decorated most of the box, but allowed some untouched for the kids to decorate during the party. We glued 3 boxes of crayons to the sides and the kids went to town. At the party, we gathered (somehow) all the kids together for a picture in front of the castle, which we included a copy in the thank you cards. We decorated the tables with Candy Land colored linens... hot pink, lime green and plum purple with lollipop flower pots as centerpieces. Each pot was filled with 3 'swirley' lollipops then tied with green bow as leaves. Other tables were covered with recycled glass jars (from spaghetti sauce, etc) filled with candy, topped off with a helium cupcake balloon. We also provided sidewalk chalk for the kids to draw (and play!) their own Candy Land blocks. For the dessert yummies, I made cupcakes, which were each decorated differently with various candy toppings. We had twizzlers (for Lord Licorice) laying around, as well as shelled peanuts in a bowl with scoop for Grandma Nutt. As favors, we handed out individual lollipop flower pots (miniature version of table centerpiece) with a small thank you from Princess Audrey of Candy Land" for attending her party. The day was a blast and the kids enjoyed the party. Even bystanders walking by would comment on Candy Land theme!! :) Now I just have to start thinking of next year's party..... :)"
