Carnival
Ages 6-10. Here are our hot ideas. Tickets ($3 from Walmart for 2000). Ticket booth - use a garment box from a moving company (many people have these saved in their basements). We painted ours using paint from the mistake shelf at Home Depot. (All Home Depots have them, we found a vibrant teal blue for $3). The garment box opens, you do not even have to cut a hole. Take a dowel, slide tickets onto it and mount inside of box for your ticket "seller." Games: Ring Toss - Collect about 30 bottled water water bottles, remove labels and paint. Fill with water or sand. Stand in rows. Pick up canning rings at thrift store (I found for 10 cents each) toss canning rings over water bottles. Balloon Dart Game - Purchase science fair three fold exhibit board at Walmart or Hobby Lobby. Thumb tack balloons to board. Puchase darts for $1.50 for 3 at Walmart. Duck Pond. Purchase plastic ducks from Oriental Trading Post. Find a kiddie pool to float them in (again, I found one at thrift store for $2). Mark a couple of ducks bottoms with stars. Kids fish out a duck using a net from Petsmart. Kids with winning ducks win prizes. Ball Toss - Purchased brightly colored pong balls from Walmart ($1.50 for 6). Purchase large foam core board from Hobby Lobby or Michaels. Hot Glue plastic dixie type cups in rows, onto foam core board. Lay board on table, let kids toss ping pong balls into cups. Put prizes into some cups. Food: First get box tops from paper boxes (you know the boxes that hold 8 to 10 reams of paper at work?) Flip the lids over, paint or cover with wrapping paper, attach a strap from one side of box top to other and load with a concession (your carnie helper will look like the girls who used to sell "cigars! cigarettes!" - to give you a visual).Pop popcorn and put into popcorn bags from your local rental company (a company that rents, canopys, fountains, ice shavers, cotton candy machines etc). My neighbor bought 200 for something like $7. We still are trying to use them up. Order prepackaged cotton candy from http://www.rainbowcottoncandy.com/ They have the CHEAPEST prices and offer the best selection of size choices and flavors. This is MUCH cheaper than renting a cotton candy machine, buying the floss and paper cones and THEN finding someone to staff it... Also Walmart has started carrying the cutest closeable cardboard food containers which we are going to put grapes in. They are in the paper plate section near the animal plates they now carry. They have animals on them and the top opens and closes. Fill with your whatever you choose. Be sure to have drinks and a few balloons (Walmart carries inexpensive helium tanks about $19). If you have time you can find prizes yourself cheaper than Oriental Trading Post. (Shoot for prizes costing 20 cents or less, like I found 10 slide whistles for $1.80 and bought 3 bags). Shipping chares will kill you buying prizes oonline...But if you don't have time Oriental is cheapest online company. Do not be fooled by the high prices of people selling novelties on EBAY. If you have enough help a face painting booth or temporary tattoo booth would be a nice addition. If money is no object, hire a balloon artist. Finally, if budget permits - a bouncy house. Know that almost all companies offer online coupons for a few bucks off. Just go to Google, type coupon and the name of the company.
