Party Supplies

For my daughter's 5th birthday, she couldn't decide between the Wizard of Oz theme or a Carnival theme, so we decided to do both. I made the invitations by creating a blue/white gingham border. I created the invitation to look like a ticket.  It said, Admit One" on the front. I also used Wizard of Oz clip art that I found on the internet. The kids brought their "admission tickets" to the party.  At the entrance to the party they were greeted outside by Dorothy and Toto.  They were given a custom made Dorothy hat that I ordered from http://stores.ebay.com/Ladybugs-Party-Place.  The hats were adorable. They were covered with blue/white gingham fabric and trimmed with red marabou fur and had a red slipper on the front.  I made a yellow brick road out of yellow paper I purchased at a school supply store.  I carefully constructed a rainbow arch for the kids to enter thru. I had Wizard of Oz music playing during the party. At the front table I had a large jar filled with rainbow colored Skittles.  The kids were instructed to guess how many Skittles were in the jar. After the guests had arrived "Dorothy" gave the winner a giant bag of Skittles as a prize. Then the kids were directed to a craft table.  I ordered plain white bags with handles and had washable magic markers and Wizard of Oz stickers scattered on the table.  The kids got to make their own bag to hold their prizes.  I had lots of game booths scattered along the room using Wizard of Oz characters as the theme for each game.  I had "Pin the heart on the Tin Man The Scarecrow's Treasure Hunt"....for this game I made a scarecrow and dressed him in usual scarecrow attire and sat him on several bales of hay.  I scattered lots of hay all over the floor and the kids searched thru the hay to find prizes. We had Munchkin's lollipop tree...each child got to pick a lollipop from the tree and the stem was color coded to correspond with a prize.  I also had Glinda the Good Witch's Apple Bobbing. I bought a huge witch cauldron and filled it with water and apples. The kids loved this one. I had an "Over the Rainbow" tattoo booth. I ordered rainbow tattoos from the internet. And of course a carnival wouldn't be complete without "Dorothy's Duck Pond."  I had a red kids swimming pool filled with blue (food coloring) water. I ordered ducks from Oriental Trading and put numbers on the bottom. We had "Emerald City" golf.  I borrowed a golf game from some friends.  And last but not least I had a booth called "Digging for Dorothy & Friends."  I purchased tiny plastic figures of all of the Wizard of Oz characters from a local dollar store (it was pure luck that I found these). I had a huge plastic pool filled with sand and lots of shovels.  The kids got to dig thru the sand until they found Dorothy or one of the other characters.  The kids were awarded Wizard of Oz themed prizes at each game booth. I made some of the prizes...Wizard of Oz coloring books (printed images from the internet) boxes of crayons (again images printed onto stickers with a Wizard of Oz theme placed on the front of the color box) ruby red plastic rings Glinda wands (plastic wands purchased at a dollar store) rainbow erasers Wizard of Oz stickers etc. For food I made cupcakes and frosted them with brightly colored icing. I had them assembled on the table in the shape of a rainbow.  I also made cupcake pics using Wizard of Oz images I printed from the internet.  I just used a circular paper punch and applied them to plastic picks.  For tablecloths I used blue/white gingham fabric that I purchased at Wal-Mart. I also made a Wizard of Oz candy boquet to use as the centerpiece. I made green witch punch and served it from a Witch cauldron. I also served rainbow sherbert ice cream. I purchased Wizard of Oz paper goods at a party store. As each child left "Dorothy" gave each child a blue or white balloon on a stick that was tied with red curly ribbon and a Wizard of Oz tag that said "thanks for coming to my party." I hope my ideas are helpful when planning your Wizard of Oz party.  The kids (and parents) had a blast! "
