For my sons 8th birthday he wanted a bionicle party. I could not find a single thing to go with his theme except the toy Bionicles. That didn't stop crazy mom from making him a true themed party. We started with the mask of light for a theme. The mask of light character is all gold so I bought left over gold table cloths, balloons, plates and cups after New Years ( he has a January birthday) I used the Bionicle/Lego site to find pieces of artwork to use to jazz up the tableware. I printed out the mask of light masks on sticker backed paper and stuck them to the paper cups. I then made the kids punch cards to wear around their necks for all of our gaming stations. There were six stations and six masks on the punch card. For each of the stations they completed they received a punch. The first game was a dart toss. I made a map (painted with poster paints) of Mati-nui (the island that the Bionicles live on) with each of the toas cities shown as a red dot, the kids took turns throwing darts to see if they could hit any of the 6 targets. The second station was lego relay on a spoon the kids raced with legos on spoons through a pre-determined course, if they dropped the lego they had to start again. Station 3 was build a bionicle, since my son had so many Bionicles we set up a table with all of the pieces and let the kids build their own creations, this was very, very popular and I should have allowed more time for them to just play. Station 4 was Name the Toas elements - I had a box with a hole in it and several bowls with different elements that each kid got to feel and identify. I had a small printout with the pictures and names of the six Toas and we talked about the elements before we played the game. There was water, ice, earth(dirt),fire(I used a first aid hot pack), air (nothing), and stone (rocks), the kids had masks of the differnt Bionicles to hold up after they felt the elements, so the ice would had been the white Bionicle Kopaka and so on, all ages liked this one a lot. Station 5 was lego drop into a jar each kid was given 10 small legos they kneeled on the chair and dropped the legos straight down into a mason jar trying to see how many they could get. Station 6 was a code breaker game the Toa have their own alphabet based on circles and lines. I printed out copies of the alphabet and made up my own words for the kids to decode. We had some short words and more challenging words for the older kids. I used words like Bionicle, Mati Nui, Kopaka, etc. Their reward for completing all the staions was a small bionicle figure which I purchased for about $3.99 apiece, we gave each of the kids one of these in lui of a goodie bag. I also made some great masks on my printer using the same Bionicle site I borrowed the mask artwork blew it up to fit an 8 1/2x11" paper and printed them out, I then ran them through my home laminatior for added stregnth and cut them out. I then used heavy duty clear packing tape to adhere to a fat craft stick. I used the masks for the name the elements game before giving them out to the kids. We then took pictures with their masks of the kids by the Mati-Nui map and a foam core cut out of the Mask of Light that I had painted for added decoration. We sent the pictures in the thank you cards. For the cake I used a store bought with an outdoor nature theme rocks and a pond and had them simplify it then I added my sons own Mask of light figure to the top. We only offered pretzels punch and bionicle colored striped jello for snacks. All of the boys loved the party and even the little girls that came enjoyed it I made the games non-competitive and fun even if you didn't know about Bionicles. It was a lot of work but went great the day of the party.
