Esmeralda Party

Esmeralda(Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame)/ Gypsy Party Invitations: Because Esmeralda plays the tambourine, we made small cardboard tambourines (available through Oriental Trading Company) to send as invitations. Each invitation was shaped as a circle or as an octagon and had bells attached to the edges. On the cover of each, I wrote: "Make some Noise" for ____________ 4th Birthday. The specific details followed.  Each tambourine was mailed in a padded envelope for protection. When the guests arrived, I (the mother) was dressed in full gypsy attire (scarf in hair, hoop earring on one ear, flowing dress, sandels, and hip scarf). The birthday girl was wearing excessive jewelry and an Esmeralda outfit created from the Disney store. As each guest arrived, she was greeted by my oldest daughter (who was also dressed as a gypsy) and led into a huge tent to have her fortune told.  We had a crystal ball placed on a table in the tent and my daughter would tell the fortune of the guest (such as, "I predict you will enjoy something sweet to eat today").  A gold chocolate coin was then given as the guest left the tent.  Then the guest would procede to the Treasure Chest that was overflowing with colorful beaded necklaces and gold bracelets. These items were purchased in bulk through the Oriental Trading Company, so the girls could wear as much as the liked. After each girl had on as much jewelry as desired, I tied a brightly colored hip scarf around her waist. Each scarf had beaded trim that dangled.  When everyone was ready, we started the craft.  Each girl used permanent markers, moon and star shaped jewels, glitter glue, and flowing ribbon to decorate quality tambourines.  This was a huge hit!  This tambourine also served as one of the party favors. The girls also received Esmeralda stickers and jewelry as a favor. After the craft, we played "Pin the Tail on Djali (Esmeralda's goat).  We also had a pinata that looked very festive and colorful. The pinata was filled with ring pops, candy coins, and other gypsy like treats. The cake was a simple sheet cake frosted with colorful icing and Hunchback characters were placed on it.  We happened to get these long ago from a playset.   This was certainly a challenge since Esmeralda is an older character. I used gold plates and utensils for serving cake and a wild print wrapping paper for a table cloth. It was colorful and festive!
