For my little boy's 2nd birthday we gave him the Fimbling Feeling. The Fimbles are fairly new children's TV characters from the BBC so there is plenty of merchandise to support your party but not many ideas. We decorated the party room to look like the Purple Meadow in Fimble Valley, with rose petal confetti scattered on the grassy green carpet, tissue paper flowers, a bubble door hanging for the Bubble Falls, a home-made Tinkling Tree (large twigs bundled together decorated with bells) and as many feathery, sparkly things as we could lay our hands on. We had the theme tune playing repeatedly as his friends arrived and greeted them all with a shower of bubbles from a bubble gun. As soon as we had all the 2-year-olds in 'Fimble Valley' we played the Fimbling Feeling song on the video, got them all doing the actions, then 'found' the first picture clue for a treasure hunt around the house. The treasure hunt prize was a box of Fimbles fairy cake mix, so it was then into the kitchen to make, bake and decorate them. While the cakes were cooking we played Hide and Seek, providing some child-sized boxes painted like Jack-in-a-Boxes for the less imaginative toddlers to hide in! To quieten them down afterwards we put out colouring and a craft activity (making glitter domes, but look at the bbc/cbeebies/fimbles website for other ideas), then sat them down in the Comfy Corner for a story with Roly Mo on the video again. Food was simple but included Crumble Crackers, of course, while a Fimbles birthday cake and party bags filled with Fimbles goodies like character jelly lollies, bubbles and the things the children had made during the party sent everyone home full and happy.
