Chinese New Year party for kids with a birthday around that date. You could decorate with paper dragons, paper lanterns, lots of red, etc... You could serve Chinese food and moon cakes
(a special cake eaten only on Chinese New Year in China). Each child could get a red envelope to collect lucky coins in (you could use gold wrapped chocolate coins).
They could win the coins while playing games such as pin the tall on the dragon. At the end of the party, they could cash in their coins for prizes such as Chinese finger traps, paper fans, plastic ninja stars, etc... You could give each child a fortune cookie with your child's name and birthdate on the fortune inside to take home.
