For my daughter's 6th birthday party we did a Cinderella Party.  Here is what her invitation said:  Once upon a time there was a little girl named Emmaella who lived with her family at (put your address).  Emmaella's parents made her work hard day and night, but now that she's turning six, she's putting up a fight.  One day Emmaella's fairy godmother appeared and called out to all the children in the kingdom. This is what she said: "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo On (date of party) Emmaella will be looking for you. She has so much work to do, So please be at her house by Two. (put in time of party) Come in your rags and help her out And then you'll see what this party is all about. From rags to riches you will go, A prince or princess you'll be from head to toe. We'll have a ball and some cake too, But beware by four the magic will be through"  And for now this story has come to an end.  Please R.S.V.P. by (date and phone ) to let Emmaella know if you will attend. We printed the invitations on scroll paper and hand delivered them to each child. When the kids arrived they were given a feather duster bought at the dollar store. We hid necklaces, rings and bracelets and gold crowns around the house for them to find while they were "dusting the house". Once everyone had found there jewelry and crowns we went to our craft activity.  I had bought material and had precut dresses for the girls and vests for the boys. We had foam flower shapes and pretend jewels for the kids to glue on to the dresses, vests and crowns.  Once they finished the craft we went upstairs for cake which was in the shape of a castle.  I made the base of the cake in a round pan.  Then I baked cake batter in 3 canned vegetable cans.  These were cut to different heights to make three towers for the castle.  Each one was topped with an upside down ice-cream cone. I also managed to find a Cinderella and carriage figurine to put in front of the castle.  After cake the children dressed up in their clothes, crowns and jewelry.  We put on some music and had a "ball"  I bought papermache boxes which I painted to make jewelry boxes. I also used plastic canvas and needlepoint bracelets. The jewelry boxes were filled with candy.  These items were put in their lootbags along with the dresses, vests, feather dusters and jewelry.
