We had a Clifford party for my daughter's 3rd birthday. I made invitations and rented out the "art studio" in our city's Library. As the guests arrived, they made "dog
collars" out of foam strips attached with velcro which the kids decorated with sticky foam shapes (no glue required). They also deocrated their dog bowls with stickers and markers and
made a placemat for themselves out of pre-cut construction paper in the shape of a big dog bone. While all this was going on, I painted faces to look like dogs and fitted each child with ears
made from construction paper (a paper headband with ears hanging down). Next, we read Clifford stories and played Simon says (obedience school) and a take off of pin the tail on the donkey
where the kids put bones in the mouth of a practically life-sized paper cutout Clifford. The decorations were simple since the Library had restrictions against taping things to the walls so
we just had helium-filled balloons attached to the tables which were held down with stuffed Clifford characters. The lunch portion of the party consisted of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
cut with bone-shaped cookie cutters and a mixture of kix, Reese's and Coco Puffs cereals and other party fare. The cake was bone-shaped and while the cake was being passed out and consumed,
the kids could decorate bone and dog-shaped cookies that I pre-baked. I just set out tubs of frosting and lots of sprinkles. The goodie bags were canvas "book bags" embroidered with
Clifford and the child's name. Inside, there were Clifford fruit snacks, a small stuffed dog, a Clifford activity book, a book mark and a mini book keychain. The kids had a great time
pretending to be dogs and Clifford's friends!
