For three years, my husband and I have had a theme party. The last one was a "White Party".
Invitation read: "Dress is White". Anything and everything white was incorporated into the party. We received questioning looks from a lot of our invitees, so my son and I made a scrabble board as decoration which connected words that were white: marshmallow, polar bear, snow, clouds, etc. I put up a small clothesline from which hung baby white t-shirts. We planted white flowers for the August party, bought knickknacks and other white items from garage sales and Goodwill to decorate with, including a huge wreath and a large assortment of fake flowers. Found a white elephant figure for the garden from a crafts store, because it was also a "white elephant" party, where the guests brought a "white elephant" gift. The food we provided was white: marinated, skewered chicken, barbecued turkey breasts, homemade white mints, phyllo dough/goatcheese appetizers, clam puff appetizers, rolls, white cheese assortment, pears and cottage cheese, white wine and champagne. We had everyone vote amongst themselves for the best-dressed person. There was a nurse, an angel, a wizard - a sea of white! The gift was a large white bag which I filled with golf balls, a big white towel, a white t-shirt, shaving cream, menthos, spearmint gum and a bag of marshmallows! At our parties, we take pictures of guests as they arrive - portrait style, so that we have individual shots of everyone. Then random pictures throughout the evening. I make an album of each party with an invitation, my notes and the pictures. A great reminder of a great time!
