Three Year Old Construction Site Invitations: Made homemade and printed on Bright yellow and orange paper. Used clip art to insert photos of a bulldozer and a backhoe tractor and safety cones in the corner. Invite said: FOREMAN COLE IS TURNING 3! The Jones "Construction Site" Our address The date: Your shift begins at 3 pm and lasts till 6 pm Caution: You may get messy, there's tons of work to do! Grub will be provided during your break All parents are requested to remain at the job site to monitor the progress of your workers! (this was to be sure parents knew not to drop off their child and run.)  I rolled these up and either mailed in a mail tube or tied with string like architecture plans normally are.  Party Decor: Bright Orange Home Depot Aprons, Yellow Construction helmets, Caution tape, Stop, Yield, Caution and Hard Hat Zone hats, Orange Public Service fencing to set up "construction zones", Safety cones lining the driveway to the backyard with yellow, black and orange balloons tied to them.  Food: Make your own grub station- featured make your own hot dogs with all the fixings (labeled ketchup=red paint, mustard=yellow paint, relish=green paint, sauerkraut=grout, onion dip=spackle)Instead of knives for the condiments, I bought putty knives and small paint brushes. Chips were served in disposable paint trays. I also had boxes of pizza so it was "help your self style". I made a homemade bulldozer cake, dyed the frosting yellow and used chocolate covered marshmallow pies as the tires. I used the small ring dings as boulders to put inside the bucket of the bulldozer. I dyed some coconut bright green to throw around the base of the cake and crushed up chocolate graham crackers and chocolate chips as the dirt on the ground. I filled a clean toy dump truck with brownie bites and set that out on the food table.  Play areas: We had a table set up in the backyard so each worker had to punch in for their shift. They gave their name and it was written on their hard hat (then under it we indicated how they knew my son- like friend, preschool, cousin, etc). They were given their home depot smock and went to work. We had different work stations labeled all over the backyard. There were 6 foot x 6 foot square fenced in areas labeled, TOOL SHOP (with my sons workbench and tools, BUILDING BLOCK AREA with legos and cardboard blocks, EDIBLE CONSTRUCTION graham crackers with frosting and an assortment of candy to stick on then eat , HARD HAT AREA the swing set and blow up jumpy toy area with all of my sons construction trucks in the playground area to play with, UNIFORMS and tattoos, we had construction tattoos. My mother in law painted a huge scale bulldozer (3D) and we played pin the boulder on the bulldozer. My prizes for the top three closest winners were a book about construction vehicles, a craft set, and marker set.  As a special attraction: we had the local ice cream truck show up an hour in to the party. We ran a tab and bought ice cream for all the parents and kids. It was a novelty that only cost $100, but the kids and parents raved about it.  Favors: Construction loot bags filled with large candy bars, bag of cookies and a novelty construction vehicle tied around the top of the bag.
