John Deere Party 2yr

Honorable Mention

January 2005

Amber in Marion, IN USA

My son loves tractors, so for his second birthday we decided on a John Deere Party. For the Invitations: I parked our John deere tractor in front of our corn field sat him on it, and took his picture. He was hanging on to the steering wheel and looking at me. I used the kodak picture maker at walmart to make copies, I used the computer to print out a post card format for the back (I made it the same size as the picture) and used paste glue to stick them together. They read Tyler's 2nd Birthday on the top, then all the party info on each line after. Then at the bottom it said "Pull your tractor in for a fun chili supper and bonfire." Once they read the info, they just pulled them apart and had a fun picture to keep. Decorations: I parked one of our old John deere tractors on the corner of our drive by the road and attatched green and yellow balloons to the steering wheel, so everyone would know where to stop. In the back yard I bought some yellow and black striped work zone tape( high enough where the kids couldn't touch it) and blocked off a huge section for the kids to play, inside I put a bunch of riding tractors, a slide, a sandbox and a swingset. I used green and yellow tablecovers on all the tables. And each table had John Deere printed balloons tied down with my son's minature tractors. We had John Deere Napkins, and used green and yellow plates and cups. We had straw bales sitting around the fire for seating. We dressed him in a yellow t-shirt and jean bib overalls. My husband and I wore John Deere t-shirts. Food: We cooked chili, in a large cast iron pot over the fire, everyone dipped their chili out with a ladle, country style. We cooked hot dogs on sticks over the fire, alot of people made chili dogs, and we had homemade kettle corn to munch on, we had individual popcorn bags to eat out of. We filled wheel barrels with ice and put the drinks in them. My sons cake was a green tractor shape. Games: we had our John Deere tractor hooked up to a trailor and loose straw filled in the back all the kids got on, and we pulled them through the cut down corn field, they loved it. Then we had a pinata hung from the tree. Their goodie bags were clear cellophane bags and I put john deere stickers on them, filled them with John deere treats and tractors, and tied them with green and yellow curling ribbon. Thank You notes said "We got a little dirty, and we had alot of fun, but finally we got the job done, Thanks for helping me clebrate my second birthday." We had the best time, I hope this gives you some ideas for your little tractor lovers.
