Here are my notes for my 8 year old indoor(winter)lego party. Enjoy! 1. Welcome to Legoland - A. Guess how many legos in the jar. B. Craft to do while waiting for all to arrive and
a little bowl of lego trivia for conversation. Here are some questions: What does "lego" mean? (play well) Who invented the lego? (Ole Kirk Christiansen) Where is Legoland?
Who is the Alpha Team? Who is Ogel? etc. C. Group Photo when all arrive and while everyone is fresh.
D. Dump out guess jar of legos and have kids put them in piles of five. Have them work together to count legos. Winner gets sticker and since they have proven that they can work together they will be going on missions. 2. Big movement Games - Everyone is so excited and happy to be together that they need big movement games first before the quiet lego building games. I explained to them while we were doing our craft that we would all be the Alpha Team working together to complete missions. Everyone wins a prize when the team completes a mission. Prizes were wrapped and put into their goodie bags to unwrap later. My son did not want any games that were against each other. Too many hurt feelings. Prizes were small inexpensive things like gum, sticky men, party poppers, etc. Mission One Deep Sea Dive: I blew up 50 or so small balloons and inserted small rolled up pieces of paper that said crystal, ruby, emerald or diamond on them with a small picture of the gem. I told the kids they needed to work together as a team to find 12 crystals and they needed to break the rocks with their rock crusher which were their bottoms. They LOVED this! Mission Two Lego Transport: The Alpha Team must transport the very precious legos to the construction site. Setup: an open area with taped off start and finish lines and a blanket on the other side of the finish line where the lego building will take place later. Challenge 1: I cut 4 sheets of letter size cardstock to look like giant lego bricks. These were now 2 pairs of heat resistant lego shoes. I asked the Alpha team to stand behind the start line and put on there lego shoes and shuffle down to the finish line with a scoop of legos that were in the middle of the room. They went two at a time. I told them that they needed to safely transport the legos over the hot lava. When everyone had a turn we moved on to lego transport challenge #2: Everyone stood behind the start line and needed to transport the legos using only their grapple toes to take the precious legos to the construction site. Challenge #3 was to stand behind the start line and transport the legos on your head. Mission Three The Ogel Challenge: This was basically a treasure hunt which made them go up and down the stairs of my house and really wore them out! I made up a story about how the golden coins were stolen and buried by the bad guy, Ogel. The last clue lead them to the trunk of my car were the (chocolate) coins were in a box of seaweed (noodles.) They needed to reach in to retrieve there prize. The clues were inside envelopes that were given to me to read. One clue said something like this, "I buried the treasure in the dirt, but the next clue is in Daddy's shirt." Then they had to find my husband who took off for a hiding place. 3. Hot Dog Lunch (Alpha Team Refueling) 4. Lego Games - A. Build something Cool. My son awared certificates easily printed off the web. (Most Awesome Lego, Most Detailed Lego, Most Interesting Lego, Coolest Lego, Most Colorful Lego, etc.) B. Build the tallest tower in 2 minutes. Everyone got a prize for effort. C. Guess What I built? Ideas were placed in a hat (car, spaceship, house, etc.)and when they were done building we all tried to guess. Prizes went to the builders for their effort. D. Guess what lego piece is in the bag. 5. Lego Cake (2x4 Brick) 6. I also had lego bingo that I made but didn't use. Names of lego pieces can be found on the web. 7. Open Presents 8. Thank and give goodie bags deas from a hat (like car spaceship etc.) and when they were finished we tried to guess what it was. Prize when to the builder for their effort.
