We just moved into a new neighborhood and my 3 yr. old son loves to watch the dump trucks drive back and forth, so I figured what would be better than a construction themed party. I sent out invitations that I made on the computer.  It had hammers and saws on the front and read:  "Foreman (child's name) is turning three, Which means there's lots of work to be. The party's at the (your last name) Construction Site, Saturday, August 24th, it will be dynamite. Your shift begins at noon and lasts until two, You'll get messy, there's tons of work to do!"  The inside read:  "Foreman (child's name) 3rd birthday party Saturday, August 24th from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM (child's address)  Grub will be provided during your lunch break, so show up hungry! Each busy worker will be making a craft, so dress to paint.  Toolboxes will be signed out upon arrival for your shift, as well as other surprises for everyone to enjoy! Please call and let us know how many little construction workers to expect from each family!"  While anticipating the day we gathered bits and pieces for the big day.  Each child received and construction hard hat with their Foreman name on it.  Found for a dollar at the Dollar General. For the gift bags we found pick up trucks (every good 'ol Texan has to drive a pick up truck!), tool set (another $1 find at the Dollar General), a carpenter's pencil, a coloring picture of Bob the Builder (Nickjr.com had a lot of nice coloring sheets.) and a bottle of Cosmic Dreams Bubble Bath (found for $1 at Wal-Mart.) with a note attached: "A construction worker's day is tons of fun, And now your work here is all done.  You did a great job,  Now you deserve a treat. A bubble bath just can't be beat!  Construction worker gets dirty you see, Now fill the tub, relax and have a bubble bath on me!  Love Foreman (child's name)"  The day of the party I fixed sack lunches containing half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, half of an apple, small bag of Cheetos, and a caprison.  I wanted to enjoy my son's birthday party so I asked a couple of the older kids from around the neighborhood if the would help me out. They each manned one of the 3 stations.  1.  Paint the clubhouse.  (I found a huge box that one of the stores was throwing out. It fit five 3 yr. olds comfortably.  We used poster paint and those big foam brushes.)  2.  Paint a pot.  (Same paint, smaller brushes and a small pot.)  3.  Plant a flower.  (My helper filled the pot with planting soil and the kids planted a perennial in it.)  After they were all done they played in the sand box and the newly painted club house.  When it came time for the cake Foreman Mommy brought out a huge dump truck full of dirt cake. (The gummy worms added a nice touch.) In the thank you notes we sent pictures of our little foreman's and their exciting day in what else but construction frame.  (Found in clipart.)  We were all tuckered out by the end of the day, everyone that lived at this construction site took a nice soothing bath. My son had a lot of fun as did the rest of the kids, although now I have to explain why he can't have another birthday. :)
