Kids Birthday
Party Supplies

We just gave our son a construction truck party for his 4th birthday. It was so much fun. I got started by printing dump trucks for the invitation.  For decorations we made street signs to put out by the road-  "Speed limit 4",  "slow party zone",  "kids at play" and instead of school crossing I used the same shape sign but had the people carrying balloons for party crossing.  The day of the party the birthday boy helped his dad put up the signs. Of course, he wanted to know if the cars were going "4 miles an hour" and "slowing down" each time a car passed. My husband has a backhoe so we put that in the front yard with a "Happy Birthday" banner across the bucket. The backhoe was also a great place to take the kids picture after handing out the yellow hard hats which were the party hats.  That was a big hit with the kids.  We put two scoops of sand in the yard and gathered all the constuction trucks and the kids were able to play in that at the beginning of the party.  We also made a dump truck and bulldozer out of poster board and used them as a game similar to pin the tail on the donkey.  We used the #3 to try and place on the bulldozer scoop- for shoving that year away and the #4 was used to place in the bed of the dump truck. I always like to have a game for the adults so this year my son and I filled the bed of a dump truck with rocks (444) and let the adults guess.  I would suggest doing a small dump truck with a few rocks for the kids to guess also, because they all wanted to play that game also. The adult winner got a "Dumper and Digger" book and I had street sign suckers that I gave each kid for trying. Each year I have my son do his handprints and footprints on my scrapbook pages and I put a title that goes with the years party theme-"Dumping Birthday Wishes on You" and each guest signed it.  This was the first year his 3-4 year old friends were able to sign their names themselves.  I also had the birthday boy sign his name so I'll be able to keep us with his progress also.  We had street sign cupcakes,  a dump truck sheet cake and also had a plastic dump truck with brownies(a favorite of the birthday boy)in the back with constuction cone candles.  For the ice cream we had orange and black sprinkles. We had lots of appetizer foods and used plastic dump trucks as serving bowls- the sausage balls(rocks) in the back worked real well.  Our colors were orange, yellow, and black- balloons, plates, cups & utensils. I also found small wooden street signs that I used on the tables for decoration along with some small construction vehicles. For his 3rd party opening presents was a disaster. This year I sat a chair for the birthday boy and another chair for the person whose present he was opening to sit in.  I also put constrution cones in a semi-circle and told the kids they had to stay behind the cones so everyone could see. It worked well!! The birthday boy and his friends enjoyed being in the "spotlight".  I put construction cones on one step of the stairs and the kids knew not to go up. The birthday boy wore a John Deere shirt that said "I Make Dirt Look Good". Which was perfect. Each child got a party bag- yellow paper bag with a construction vehicle stenciled on the front.  There was a plastic dump truck or bulldozer, Tonka coloring book, a wooden construction vehicle and a whistle.  We stenciled a construction vehicle on note cards and the birthday boy had to sign each one for the "Thank You" cards. Needless to say, I had as much fun putting this party together as the kids had at it. The next night my son asked me "what kind of party will we have next year"???  I couldn't give him an answer because I still had construction vehicles whirling through my mind!!
