My older son just turned two this past October. He loves John Deere tractors and often goes for tractor rides with my father-in-law who lives near by.
I looked everywhere for invitations plates, etc with John Deere tractors, no luck!! I decided to make my own. I cut 8 1/2x11 sheets of bright yellow cardstock in half lengthwise. I folded each half in half. I found some fabric at the craft store that had John Deere tractors printed on it. I cut out tractors and glued them on the cardstock invitations. On the outside of the invitation I wrote with green paint marker, "Come to a party for a DEERE little boy!" I mailed the invitations in bright green envelopes with the addresses written with yellow paint marker. For the table, I had a bright yellow table cloth set with green plastic silverware, green dinner plates topped with yellow dessert plates, and green and yellow plastic cups and napkins. I also found a bandana that had John Deere tractors on it and used that and a toy John Deere tractor as the centerpiece. We decorated the room with green and yellow balloons and streamers. I decorated the cake myself. I frosted the cake white and using a little blue food coloring painted across the top for the sky. I made green grass using a grass decorating tip and green tinted icing. I put a toy tractor on top and made a pile of dirt(crushed chocolate cookies) for the tractor to push. For the board to put under the cake, I took a piece of foamboard and covered it with the same fabric that I made the invitations with and covered that with clear cellophane. For fun my father-in-law took the kids one at a time on a tractor ride around the yard. I took Polaroid pictures of each kid on the tractor as enclosed it with the thank you note. The thank you notes were made the same as the invitations, except the out side read, "Thanks for being such a DEERE!!!" My son had a wonderful time at his party and I got lots of compliments on the invitations and the cake.
