My husband & I had a blast planning our son's first birthday party.  We decided to use a construction theme because he absolutely loved his dump trucks, etc.  The party was held in our local VFW hall, as we have a large group of family & friends. I had invitations printed at a local store. They had all kinds of tools on the outside & were worded: LOGAN the Foreman is turning ONE, so we are having loads of fun! The site is the VFW Hall, on Friday, February 14th and it will be a ball! Your shift begins at 5:00 and ends at 6:30, we'll try not to get too dirty!  Please call the site coordinator if your crew is already booked that day. 256-xxx-xxxx.  We had a bulldozer parked out front with a bunch of yellow, orange, & black balloons attached. We made a sign that said "Logan's Construction Zone" & hung from the bucket on the dozer. As each child arrived, they were given a construction apron from Lowe's & a yellow hard hat and got to have their picture made sitting on the bulldozer! At the entrance we had a balloon arch made of yellow, orange, & black ballons entwined with black & yellow CAUTION tape. Each child was given his/her own toy tool kit as they arrived. We purchased plates, napkins, cups, etc with construction vehicles on them from Party City.  We had a 3D bulldozer cake made at a local bakery & used crushed graham crackers around the front for "dirt". The bakery also made a small cake in the shape of a bulldozer just for the birthday boy. I purchased a Tonka Jr. dump truck & bulldozer. I made "Worms & Dirt" and served it with a small shovel from the dump truck.  We used the bucket of the bulldozer for dip & a hard hat turned upside down for chips. We also had Gatorade instead of punch served out of one of the huge construction type drink coolers. For table decorations, I placed small orange cones at each end. In the center, I used a new tool (hammer, wrench, etc) as a weight for a balloon bouquet. Since we had children at the party from 6 months to 9 years old, I made a special area for the older kids with a blue tarp & the black & yellow CAUTION tape. In this area, I placed toy dump trucks, markers & paper, and extra balloons to keep them entertained. As for the birthday boy, I had a shirt made that had LOGAN and a big yellow dump truck with a "1" embroidered on it. The perfect gift: a foot-to-floor front end loader that was on tracks instead of wheels, called the "Excavator". We found Tonka wrapping paper & tied a huge bow out of the CAUTION tape to top it off. I purchased thank you notes in the shape of a bulldozer that read: Dear__, Thanks for the___. I really dig it! Love, __. When the party ended, everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves & we recieved tons of compliments on the originality of the party.
