John Deere Party

Honorable Mention

May 2002

Planning my son's birthday party was finally here! What theme do I choose?  How can this be a memorable event for everyone involved?  Choosing a theme was pretty easy, my son LOVES tractors, so we went with the John Deere theme. I sat down and made a list of things that I wanted to do:  Decorations, Invitations, Dinnerware, Foods, and Outside Plans. We'll start with decorations.....I purchased enough John Deere fabric at Joanne's Etc. (they also have it at Wal-Mart) for 2 tablecloths, one for the food table and one for the picnic table. I also ordered 50 John Deere balloons from www.greenfunstore.com. Keeping the farm theme in mind, I also bought 3 bales of hay from the local Co-Op for additional seating. Invitations: I went to Office Max and purchased InkJet Postcards so I could make my own invitations on my personal computer.  I copied and pasted the John Deere logo from the internet onto my postcard and included a rather catchy phrase for the introduction.  Dinnerware: Also from the www.greenfunstore.com, I purchased John Deere cups, napkins, and paperbags for party favors. From the local party store, I bought green and yellow plates, napkins, and forks (because you CAN have to much John Deere!!) NOW, onto FOOD!! From www.cookiecutterfactory.com, I bought the saw-shaped cookiecutter and made saw-shaped chicken salad sandwiches, we had chips, haystacks, a cheeseball and carrot cupcakes.  Also, my Mother-in-Law made my son's birthday cake and she built a barn out of Popsicle sticks, and the roof was made of corrugated cardboard that said "See Rock City" "Happy First Birthday" on the top.  She also placed John Deere miniature tractors on it, and made her own haybales out of raffia.....it was really cute!!!  Also, I used galvanized tubs from Loews to display the food in...... The party was a HUGE success and I will never forget it!!! Having a baby during the late spring, early summer is great for party's outside......it was especially good to have the party outside for my son because, he LOVES the outdoors!! I hope that this can be of some help for those mothers that are planning a party for their children that want a memorable event!!  ENJOY!!  THEY ARE ONLY EACH AGE ONCE!!!
