For my son's first birthday I wanted to do something really special. I decided to go with a construction theme. I found invitations at a local party supply store that were perfect. They were 5x7 cardstock with a picture of a dump truck backing up dumping dirt. On the dirt I printed out the wording of the invitation that said something wordy about the Foreman turning one and if you can make your shift to call the shift supervisor. The envelope was a picture of a matching big dump truck. At the construction party site I had construction orange cones leading up the driveway to the front door with balloons tied on them. At the door there was caution tape and a poster that said ----- (our last name) Construction Been in Business One Year and it had pictures of my son when he was a newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and one year. I bought a dump truck photo album (found it at Target) that had room to write next to each picture. I had all of the guest right a special message to my son and took a picture of them to put in it. Most of the balloons were tied on to tools, such as a hammer, screwdriver etc. as centerpieces. For the food¦.I served everything in huge dump trucks with shovels. We had potato salad, fruit salad and a 6 ft sub sandwich. The cake was also served in a dump truck and it was chocolate with pudding on top. On top of the pudding I put crushed Oreos (for the dirt effect) and then I added gummy worms. I had the truck propped up so it looked like it was dumping a load and then I had a plate of more pudding, Oreos, and worms. I made my son a personal mini dump truck with the same cake that he could have on his high chair. He had a blast eating the dirt and all of the guest loved watching him make a mess.. I also served punch and in the punch bowl I had floating rubber duckies that had hard hats and shovels that I found on Amazon.com. My sister and I bought a box of king size Hershey bars and replaced the wrappers with our own personalized one. It was yellow with black caution stripes on the sides it said E----s first birthday and the date and on the back it said Ingredients: snips, snails, and puppy dog tail Inside one of the bars we put a special ticket that said Caution: You are a winner. The city has approved your project please see shift supervisor for your permit The person who found it received a $10 gift card to home depot. This was a way to include the adults in the festivities.  Since my son is only one all of his friends are roughly one so we only played one game. Pin the Hard Hat on the Foreman I took a picture of E--- wearing a tool belt and had it blown up to poster size. I then made hardhats and the kids taped the hat wear they thought it belonged. The child who made it the closest to wear you would actually wear the hat won a prize, plastic sand shovels.  After the kids were done the adults gave it a shot with a blind fold and a few spins and the winner received a screwdriver set. I bought party hard hats at the local party supply store for all of the guests to wear. I also found little dump trucks for all of the children at the dollar store. I found dump truck coloring books at Walmart and I had them out for the kids to color if they wanted to. The party was a blast. I know my son enjoyed his first birthday and I am extremely pleased that I went with construction as the theme. I had such a great time planning and  hosting this party!!! I received many compliments and everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I can't wait for my next event!
