My son loves hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, tape measures and more.... So I called his two-year-old party: Eaton's "Twol" Party!  Stores do not carry tool items only Construction things so I made everything myself.... It was FUN and inexpensive!  First I made him a hammer cake (his favorite tool) I used three cake mixes and baked it in a lasagna pan.  The cake will rise well above the pan so use an electric knife to cut the cake down to the height of the pan. Remove the cake and place it on a cutting board. (I GREASE AND FLOUR THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN AND LINE IT WITH A PIECE OF WAXED PAPER FOR EASY REMOVAL) I then used a blown up image of a cute hammer and cut it out (first the head, then the neck and finally the handle) It will be in three pieces, which will use up most of the cake.  Now move it to an aluminum foil covered board for decorating. I used a dark grey for the head and neck of the hammer, and a vibrant red for the handle. First frost the pieces together and then the entire hammer. I used some black frosting in a plastic bag and outlined the head and neck so it would stand out. The aluminum foil is easy to wipe off and looks great to display your cake! It was awesome...my son loved it! (The cake was about 20inces long when finished!) For the other snack at the party I used a hammer cookie cutter (www.foosecookiecutters.com) and cut out sugar cookies and used the left over frosting to decorate them! The kids gobbled them up before I could even serve the cake!  For decorations I used my sons Little Tikes plastic tools and hung them from the kitchen light with colorful curly ribbon...I even used his play nuts and bolts and hung them about. I made sticker name badges on the computer that said Eaton's Pound Pound Crew (he calls hammers, pound pounds!)) and I left room to write the guests names on. He handed them out to the guests when they arrived. Easten's name badge said "BOSS" on it! I used a red bed sheet for a tablecloth and took apiece of plastic table covering and taped it down the center. I then wrote with a black marker: Easton's Twol Party! I took some other images of tools and traced them on compressed sponges (Ben FranklinCrafts) and cut them out. I puffed them up under water and stamped the tools all around the saying with bright paints.  I was able to find some stickers of tools and I stuck them to some latex balloons and hung them around.  For the bowls to serve the cake in (bowls are easier for kids to eat cake and ice cream out of) I bought black ones and turned them into a tape measure! I used a simple tape measure image and cut it out of black construction paper. I used red paper to make the locking device, and yellow construction paper to make the tape. I used a black marker to make the lines on the tape and wrote the 1,2,3,4 inch #'s in black and highlighted the 2 in RED for his age! It was simple and very cute! The tape measure measured about 8x8inches and the piece of yellow paper for the tape measured about4.5 inches long by about 1 inch high! The parents even got kick out of these! Simple and cute! For the most exciting part of the party...The kids built birdhouses with REAL tools! My husband went to a local Environmental Center a purchased the birdhouse kits for only $3 a piece! With the help of the parent search child got to build and take home there very own Birdhouse!  Be creative and Fun -- I DID!
