My sons 4th birthday party. This idea was a result of my husbands job he is in construction. I think every little boy has a love for dirt. I sure know my three do.
My middle son was turning 4 and I was knocking my brains out for a birthday party idea. I had done many birthday parties so far and I always wanted a different idea for each one so none of the kids could say I did that!! Then it hit me. A construction party. Have a load of dirt and pails and shovels and let them go at it. His birthday is in July perfect weather for the little ones and why not. Let them get dirty. I planned the party all outside. I ordered a small truck load of top soil had it dumped in the back yard the day before the party. (You can always use the dirt back in the garden at the end of the party.) I bought a pail and shovel for each child so they could play with it. No fighting that way. I bought fire man hats (they don't have construction hats) so they could feel like a construction worker. Loaded the area with Tonka trucks, bull dozers and dump trucks. The cake was ordered and a small Tonka truck was placed in the middle of the cake. It was a great cake the baker made a chocolate chip mountain. The party invites were little truck cards and I made sure to let each parent know that it will be messy. Telling them there will be a dirt pile involved. Many parents questions as to why a dirt pile? I was happy to let them know it was all the plan and for the kids to get a little messy. We had the food before the dirt pile so it wasn't too messy, it was perfect. The kids had a great time most of them came dressed in overalls and boots, it was perfect. One of the best ideas I came up with. It got rave reviews.
