Let's Bake a Cake and Have a Party Too!  For my daughter's 6th birthday party I chose a baking party.  The invitations featured cupcakes and said "Mary's turning 6. Let's bake a cake (open the card for) and have a Party too!"  Each child was greeted with her own apron painted with their name, cupcakes or party hats, balloons, and confetti and a chef hat (actually very simple to sew).  Each child had a Polaroid picture taken with the birthday girl.  After a round of musical chairs and a round of everyday girl craziness, we were ready to decorate the cakes.   The table was set with a paper tablecloth, pink paper plates, doilies and lots of cake decorations. I had baked the mini cakes in different shapes, hearts to teddy bears to Winnie the pooh, ahead of time. (I left them uncovered overnight so they would be easier to frost.) Each child selected the cake she would like to decorate and we placed them on doilies on top of their paper plates. Each child had their own miniature spatula (2 for a $1.00) and shared white frosting.  We had four different color frostings in the tubes with different applicators. And six different colored sprinkle shapes. The children had a ball decorating two cakes each. When they were done they went to another room for more birthday games and play time.  I wrapped each cake and doily in colored saran wrap and placed them in baker boxes which held two cakes each. I glued their Polaroid picture to the box and placed the spatula in the box also.   The birthday cake was a little girl in a chef apron and baker hat (made out of a napkin).  The girls not only loved getting to act like little bakers, but also loved bringing home all their goodies to show Mom and Dad.
