Cooking Party- 10 year old       My nephew loves to cook so for his 10th birthday I chose a cooking party, and since I have a large kitchen, I had it here. I bought chef hats and disposible aprons for each child at a party store. I set the table with a red and white checked tablecloth, had drippy candles in an old bottle, used white paper placemats and red plates, cups, napkins and silverware. I made a sign out of posterboard that said "Welcome to Christopher's Cafe", and hung it on the door outside.  While waiting for all of the kids to arrive, I let them personalize their own white paper placemats. I had mini bundt pans and made the cakes (one for each child) a week ahead of time and froze them-some chocolate cake and some white cake. I bought 4 tubs of white icing and let the kids use food coloring to dye them any color they wished for their own personal cake, then I set out eight types of toppings for the cakes. When the cakes were finished, we set them on cardboard rounds with paper doilies and set them in their own bakery boxes, and we made individual mini pizzas.    I bought small plain pizza shells, sauce, and various toppings. Each child got to assemble their own, done the way they wanted it. While the pizzas were cooking, the kids all assembled an anti-pasto salad. I also bought sparkling grape juice (for wine) and Cherry 7-Up that I poured into a glass pitcher to resemble house wine. We set the table with the salad and fresh breadsticks while we waited for the pizzas to be done. For goodie bags, each child received not only their chef hats and aprons, but 2 pot holders, wire whisk, measuring spoons and cups, plastic spatula, recipe cards and a clear plastic picture frame. We took a group picture of everyone (before the food!)and put the picture in the frame for everyone to take home. The birthday boy also received two cookbooks for kids. All of the children who attended were his cousins, so I didn't send out invitations. I wanted this to be a complete surprise to everyone, and if the cousins knew, they would tell him. Only the parents were let in on the secret! Since they were too busy putting together pizzas and salad, and icing cakes, I did not plan any games. I figured that the fun they had putting it all together themselves would replace any games I could come up with. I was right.
