Fruits and Veggies Party-  1) Make invitations, write the party information on a plastic fruit or veggie.  2) Decorate the party room with balloons and streamers and fuits and veggies. Try to find pictures and posters, too.  3) When all the guests arive give them a vegetable or fruit, and make veggie/fruit people. Stick toothpicks in the veggie for arms and legs. Use pretty cloth to make the veggie/fruit person clothes. Draw on a face with permanent markers. If you do not want to use real veggies/fruits, supply guests with brightly colored oven-baking clay. Have them mold their own vegetable/fruit people, using the clay. They can add clothes and hats, and accesories. They can also make veggie/fruit pets for their veggie/fruit people.  4) Make potato stamp t-shirts. Cut several large potatos in half and sketch a simple design onto the cut end of the potato. Cut around the shape so it is raised above the rest of the potato. Create several of these potato "stamps" Lay out plates of different colored fabric paints. Have guests dip potato stamps into the paint, and onto a new, white t-shirt, in any pattern of their choice. Also, use differnt fruits and veggies to make neat patterns, cut a pepper in half and stamp that, carrots make great circles, celery has a cool print, stamp an orange peel for a cool, dotted look, or cut an orange in half for an interesting design, use lemons, limes, grapes, mushrooms, anything that you think will make a cool print is fabulous! 5) For food, make a cake in the shape of a fruit. Serve a veggie platter, and fresh fruits. Also serve fruit yogurts and fruit juices. If you like, serve "mashed potatoe" sundaes. Whip vanilla icecream until it's soft and fluffy. Serve with chocolate sauce or butterscotch sauce "gravy" Complete the look with a yellow Starburst candy butter pat. Make one sundae for each guest, just wait until you see their faces when they taste the icecream, when they thought it was mashed potatoes!  6) Time for party games! You will need a Mr.Potato Head doll. Place all of his noses, eyes, lips, ect... in a shoe box. Place the potato doll on a table top, and blindfold a guest. Have them reach into the shoebox, and pick out a piece. By feeling it,try to have them determine what it is and place it in the correct spot on Mr.Potato Head. If they put it in the right spot, they get a prize. (see PRIZES below)Repeat with each guest.  7)This is a fun game that devolps thinking skills. If kids are old enough to write, give each kid a piece of paper and a pencil. Ask them this question- HOW MANY THINGS CAN YOU DO WITH A BANANA?" Have them write down as many things as possible, they can be silly or serious (i.e. bake it, throw it, eat it,wear it as a hat)If they are not old enought to write, simply do it out loud, keeping track of how many ideas each guest has come up with, or have them draw their ideas. Award prizes to the 3 people who came up with the most ideas, and so everyone gets a prize, create categories such as silliest, scariest, ect... Everyone wins this game in one category only.  8)Bob for apples! Or, use differnt fruits and veggies that float. If the fruit or veggie is too large, cut it in half for easy grasping. For each guest, use a large bin or tub with about 3 fruits or veggies to bob for. (with seperate bobbing tubs, no germs are spread) PRIZES AND FAVORS- While the t-shirts and vegetable/fruit people make excellent favors, there are a few alternative ideas. Try finding Mr.Potato Head and Mrs.Potatoe Head Dolls on sale. Purchase one for each guest. This is the party favor as well as the prize. You can then use this as a party activity, kids can have fun dressing up the dolls, and putting on puppet shows with them. You might want to eliminate the real veggie dolls if you do this. Instead of potato head dolls, try giving out the game Monkeys In A Barrel, with an attached tag saying "Monkeys love bananas, and other fruits, too!" For inexpensive prizes, ggive out little things, like jacks, modeling clay, Silly Putty, or marbles. Try to find fruit and veggie related things, but kids don't really care if their favors are theme related.  This party was designed to show kids about helathy eating, and the importance of fruits and veggies in our meals. We hope that after this fun party, children will be encouraged and excited about eating their fruits and veggies. Thank You!
