This year my daughter turned five.
We decided to do a cooking party. For the invitation I bought recipe cards. The recipe title was for Sarah's fifth birthday. The ingredients: I put the child's name, clothes that can get messy, a good imagination, a healthy appetite. For the directions I wrote. On Aug 26 place child in clothes. At 4:00 put child in the oven at place of party (our address) Cook for approximately 2 hours. Child should be well done by 6:00. In order to RSVP I include a blank recipe card and asked that the parents send back the recipe card with one of their child's favorite recipes. Prior to the party we printed up the recipes and made a recipe book for each child. I bought a variety of cooking related stickers. When the children arrived at the party we had two activities set up. The children were given their recipe books and they decorated them with the cooking stickers. I had also premade shape cookies. The kids were able to decorate these with foodoodlers (markers that can be used on cookies and other baked goods)They ate some of the cookies right away and saved others which we put in their loot bags. When all the kids had arrived and were settled in, we gathered at the kitchen table. We mixed up a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough (without the chocolate chips) The children took turns measuring and mixing. Because I need a few batches I had premade some dough the night before. Each child was then given a small bowl of dough and we had a variety of ingredients (chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, M&M's, reeces pieces chips etc...) which the children added to their dough. They formed cookies which we baked. After the cookies were done each child made their own individual pizza. We used Pita bread for the base of the pizza. They were given the sauce, cheese and toppings to put on their pizza. While the pizza was cooking, the kids decorated cupcakes which I made in advance. The cupcakes were used to help make the birthday cake. Before the party I made two cakes in the shape of triangles(to look like ice cream cones) After the cupcakes were decorated we placed them above the ice cream cones and they became the scoops of ice-cream. The children really enjoyed helping to make the birthday cake. For the lootbags the children took home the cookies that we baked and decorated and the recipe books. I also included a wooden spoon with the child's name on it, three cookie cutters and a candy necklace. The party ran very smoothly and the children enjoyed themselves.
