For my son's 5th birthday , he wanted a Wild West Cowboy theme. I dressed him up in his cowboy duds and took him down to our neighborhood park with our dog and had him pose by the wood fence with his toughest "cowboy snarl" on his face. I then used this picture to create a WANTED poster which I  printed out on parchment paper for the invitations. I tore the edges and used brown stamping ink and a sponge to make it look old. It read "Wanted, for the high crime of turning Five....callin' all cowpokes, don yer best cowboy duds and join us at the ranch to celebrate Lucky Luke's 5th birthday." Time and date with our adress, and then "Just have yer mama give us a holler", and gave our phone #. They turned out so cute!!! When the kids arrived they were given a cowboy hat and a red bandanna (picked up at target for a dollar) I decorated our yard with appliance boxes that I had painted to resemble a western town. We had a jail, saloon, bank, and a general store. The kids had a blast playing in these!!! For the food I served hot dogs, chips and mac-n-cheese in disposable pie tins. The games we played were "There's a snake in my boot!" where they had small rubber snakes that they had to try and toss into an old mens size cowboy boot (picked up at good-will for 3 dollars), Pin the badge on sheriff luke, (i took the picture i used for the invitation to Kinkos and had them enlarge it poster size and laminate it and the kids used plastic sheriff badges i put tape on the back of) after the game they got to keep the badge. Sheriff says (just like simon says, a great time filler!)I picked up an electronic shooting gallery game at a toy outlet and the boys took turns trying to shoot down plastic pop cans. VERY POPULAR! Then we walked across the street to our little park and did gunny sack races, and a game called "rope and ride" where they took turns driving my son's power wheels jeep across the park to where I had a large inflatable cactus (oriental trading co.) then they had to try and rope the cactus with a lasso I had made. Once we finished the games we did cake and presents and before they went home I had a cactus pinata tied to a tree in our front yard and they took turns trying to break it. Once it opened, they realized it was empty, and I acted all shocked and said it looked like the work of an outlaw named Lawless Lance, and we had to capture him and get their loot back. My husband then came running around the corner with his cowboy hat and bandanna yelling and holding their goody bags up in the air as he tried to get away. The kids chased him down and tackled him demanding their bags, it was hilarious! the goody bags consisted of a 12 inch gummy worm, plastic cowboys and indians, plastic horses, and "gold mine" bubble gum (all ordered from Oroental Trading Co.)They also took home their cowboy hats and bandannas and sheriff badges. The party was a huge success!! It was a lot of work, but I started planning early, and that helped. It was worth all the work, and I am not sure who had more fun, me or the kids!!!
