My 6 year old son was a cowboy-loving boy in the extreme. For his birthday party we invited everyone to a "round-up". We made gift bags out of paper sacks with a sheriff
sticker to decorate it. The goodies included plastic cowboys, cowboy stickers, cow tails candy, and bandanas. As the children arrived we had paper bag vests for them to decorate
and then wear.
We had a sheriff's badge for our son and deputy badges for the other children. We had a water gun shooting gallery (they tried to knock down plastic cowboys), panning for gold (pebbles spray painted gold and hid in a sand/water mix in our plastic wading pool. The pan was an old pie tin.), calf roping (they ran on a stick horse and tried to throw a rope around a barrel), and digging for gold (a penny hunt in sand). The cake was decorated with plastic cowboys and horses. It had sand colored frosting with a patch of green for the horses with a blue "stream" running down the middle. We even had a corral fence for the horses. We served roasted hot dogs (roasted in the fireplace by the children), baked beans and chips. The meal was served in pie tins for a real cowboy feel. As the children left we gave them a cupcake decorated with a small cowboy themed chocolate. (Pour melted chocolate in a mold from the craft store, cool and pop out of the mold) The kids had a great time and it has been one of our most memorable parties.
