My son chose a cowboy theme for his 3rd birthday.  For starters, I printed up invitations on a western themed stationary from our local scrapbooking store. They read: Howdy Partners! Tyler is turning 3 years old and we're gathering up all of our favorite buckaroos to help us celebrate! Y'all come on over for the hoe-down, y'hear?  We're rounding 'em up at the Firebaugh corral on (party date) at (party time), (party address). Give us a holler at (phone number).  Sure hope you can do-si-do on over for some boot stompin' fun!  Hee-Haw!  We decorated our front door with cowboy themed cutouts from a local party store.  As guests arrived, we greeted them with a cowboy hat and bandana (ordered from Oriental Trading Co.).  They proceeded to the backyard where we had a cowboy themed bouncer set up.  For the children who chose not to bounce or just wanted to take a break, we also had a few craft tables set up: fruit-loop necklace making, a coloring table, and a cookie decorating table (of course with sugar cookies cut out of cowboy cookie cutters; cowboy hats, horses, and boots). Prior to the party, I made "Wanted" picture frames for each child out of posterboard and stickers from the scrapbooking store.  During the party, I took a Polaroid photo of each child on a rocking horse and stuck the photos onto their frames.  I hung these on the entryway wall under a sign that said "America's Most Wanted". The parents especially loved this idea!  For food, we served chicken strips, cole slaw, and biscuits from Kentucky Fried Chicken. I also made up baked beans, cornbread, and a fruit platter.  Of course, to top it all off, there was a cowboy themed birthday cake! To end the party, each child took a turn trying to break open a cowboy boot piņata.  They took home their piņata bags, cowboy hats, bandanas, fruit loop necklaces, coloring pages, decorated cookies, and picture frames as party favors.  The party was a huge success and fun was had by the adults and children alike!  In fact, a few of the parents insisted on having their photos taken on the rocking horse as well! Oh, I almost forgot! One of the favorite activities of the children was the "Pin The Cowboy Hat on Tyler" game. I enlarged a photo of Tyler on a pony at Kinkos and mounted it on a large posterboard. The children took turns being blindfolded and tried sticking a paper cowboy hat on the poster. Every child won a prize just for trying; a harmonica from Oriental Trading Company. These were a hit and the kids had quite a laugh seeing where their cowboy hats landed.    I highly recommend a cowboy/western theme for young children!  It was a lot of fun to put together and everyone raved about the party!
