We chose a Curious George theme for my son's 4 year birthday party this year. I began by creating invitations on yellow and brown card stock with the all the details of the party.
I tied an additional matching card over the invitation with a big red question mark on it.
I then tied with red raffia the entire invite to a banana that I painted with red polka dots and the word Curious?" Obviously brown table cloths and red and yellow balloons tied to bunches of bananas. I spray painted a cheap cowboy hat yellow and turned it upside down to hold the banana chip trail mix I made for snack (Wal-Mart brand tropical trail mix; red yellow and brown M&Ms and pretzels). Instead of a big cake I set up a banana split bar where kids could make their own banana splits by choosing from several fun toppings. I also made little mini cupcakes and iced them in red and yellow. This way we technically had cake at the party. The little cupcakes work well for this age...not a lot of waste and they fit well in their little hands. For activities at the party we rented a big bounce and called it the Monkey Bounce and I also printed off the Curious George masks from the official website and let the kids color those. Each kid left with a goody bag created out of white lunch sacks with a picture of Curious George reading books (I printed this off the website and cut them out and pasted them on the bag) with their name hand painted on the bag folded and tied off with red raffia. The bags were filled with Kit Kats and Tootsie Rolls (red yellow and brown theme) and Curious George stickers. I also created an activity book for them by printing out several of the Curious George sheets from the website (matching maze coloring etc.) I rolled these and tied them with a fun yarn poms. Also included in the bag was a small print out of the Curious George Banana Bread tied to a gallon sized zip-loc with all the dry ingredients for the recipe. The kids left with this bag their Curious George mask and a 3 banana bunch with balloons tied to it...the same ones I used for decorations. The banana bread recipe calls for three bananas so they could use these to make the bread with their families when they got home. Fun Day!"
