We decided on a tea party for my daughters 5th birthday party. I started by purchasing white dress-up gloves from the local costume shop, and making invitations that read, "Please wear these gloves and your very best dress-ups to a very special day. Sidney's 5th birthday!" I printed the invitations on my computer and made matching envelopes that set the mood of the event. I then went to the thrift store and bought twelve old glass reception plates and small tea cups to match.  I set the table with a pink tablecloth, darker pink placemat, then the glass reception plate with the setting. On top of the place setting I placed a tiara for each of the girls. Pink and white streamers hung from light up tp the ceiling. For games we played, pin the lid on the teapot, musical pillows (decorative pillows placed on the floor instead of chairs), we decorated and made fans with glitter, ribbon, fancy scissors and hole punches. We also made fruit loop necklaces while the food was being prepared.  For the cake I used two nine inch round cakes and one round dome shaped cake and made a teapot cake. The 'tea' was fruit punch with rainbow sherbet floating in it. (This way I did not have to serve ice cream separately).   For party favors I went to the craft store and got paper boxes and decorated them with beautiful Susan Branch stickers and filled them with ring pops, candy bracelets, a faux pearl necklace and some stickers, all tied with a pink ribbon. This is a wonderful party idea that will thrill your child and create fond memories of childhood. I am not a pink frilly kind of person but if done correctly, you can have a 'girly' party that your child will enjoy without being tacky and over the top.
