DIVA DANCE PARTY! Our daughter is the ultimate diva, so of course she needed a sleepover Diva Dance Party for her 8th birthday. We invited 8 friends - a good number!
INVITATIONS were CDs with a recorded message from our daughter and a few of her favorite songs. The CD label said Diva Dance Party At Club Savannah. We used terms like: One Night Only...Admit One...Doors Open... - DECORATIONS were black plastic tablecloths shredded as curtains (SO much cheaper than buying the plastic curtains), pictures from teen magazines taped to the walls and tables, and a pinata (decoration only) in the shape of a high heel shoe. We also bought black and blue balloons (her favorite colors). Some hung from the ceiling, some we anchored with yellow stars cut from posterboard, which looked really good on the floor. We also had our son stand outside as the bouncer with a guest list. He gave the parents our telephone number and he took theirs for any late night emergencies. We had music outside as the girls walked up to the door. FOOD was finger foods like marshmellows, bagel bite pizzas, cheese and crackers, veggies, and chips. Sparkling punch was served from a punch bowl into plastic champagne glasses. I used my wine glass rings for the girls to tell their drinks apart. They really liked the glasses. ENTERTAINMENT included the karaoke machine and a television for them to watch themselves sing and dance. I also recorded some music videos for them to dance with and watch. We played pin-the-kiss on an Orlando Bloom poster (from a teen mag) and freeze dance. They liked those games so much we didn't play the other games and just played those over and over until each girl won a prize. The girls also entertained themselves by imitating their favorite Nickelodeon show characters. PRIZES were hair pieces, lip gloss, fake nails, and body lotiion. GOODY BAGS were leopard print purses from the dollar store with diva keychains, make-a bracelet kits, and candy rings. The prizes they won completed the really great bags. We ended the night with the girls all camped on the floor of our daughter's bedroom on blow up mattresses and they watched Freaky Friday until they fell asleep at midnight. We served breakfast in the dining room and short order cooked eggs, bacon, pastries, cereal for each girl to have a "lady-like" breakfast after such an all-out evening. Not only did the girls discuss it at school the next day, they continue to tell me how much fun they had every time I work in the classroom.
