My 7-year-old daughter wanted a disco party this year. I bought disco-type invitations from Birthday Express and also noted to guests to dress for a disco. I bought a disco ball from Oriental
Express and we hung that in our living room. My husband had heavy, dark material from his work, and we covered the windows in the party room so the room was dark. The entrance way to the
party room, I put dark blue streemers from top flowing all the way down. The room was dark!!!! I also put lava lamps and some other neat fluorescent lights. All the guests arrived looking
very groovy in their disco outfits and all started dancing until everybody arrived. They danced to some Radio Disney tunes that I had taped from previous weeks. Each girl also had a chance to
sing karaoke. All the girls were dressed very hip for the occasion. I had a dance lesson which included: The Macarena, Electric Slide, the Chicken Dance, and of course YMCA. They all knew the
chicken dance and YMCA, and were very happy to learn a couple new dances. Even the shy girls were dancing. Some moms stayed and helped and they were having fun dancing as well. We then played
"The Dress-Up game" which involved two teams. I had put together a bunch of different types of adult and children clothing (fancy gloves, scarves, hats, jewelry, shoes, even old
halloween costumes - clothes that kids would like to play dress-up with). I had a helper stay in the party room at the starting line, and I was in the other room (where nobody could see me).
When we said go, one girl from each team ran to me, looked through the big pile of clothing, and put on three articles of clothing on top of their own clothes, then ran back to tag the next
person in line. Which ever team finished first won. A group picture was then taken of the "new" outfits, which were later sent with thank-you notes. The girls loved that game and
wanted to play again and again. It was then pizza and cake time. I made a round cake that had bright pink frosting and bright purple around the edges. I have a cake decorating shop close to
where I live and I bought the pink tint and added it to white frosting. They also had lipstick, fingernail polish, and other girly decorations for the top of the cake. I also put bright
colored Skittles around the edges. The cake looked very cool. For the table setting, I used all purple (daughter's favorite color), table cloth, plates, etc. For an extra touch, I cut pieces
of brightly colored, curled ribbon and put all over the table. Each chair had two balloons tied to them. There were streames, pink and purple, hanging on the ceiling with the ends hanging
down. It was very festive! After that Regan opened her presents, and they started singing and dancing again until it was time to go home. All had a great time. It was a great party, and now
my 4-year-old wants a disco party!!!!
