It was my daughter's 8th birthday and she was really into all of the cool 60's stuff. We decided to have a "60's Flashback Dance".
The guest received invitations saying to come dressed in the coolest 60's outfits they could find and help Holly dance the night away. The adults dressed up too. We had a friend to DJ the party for us. We used several black lights around one half of the gym and I cut out designs (peace signs, flowers, smiley faces, mushrooms, hearts etc) from florescent colored posterboards to hang on the walls. When they were ready to dance, we turned out the lights and everything glowed! It was awesome! We played limbo with the lights out. We had a contest to see who was dressed the coolest (all 28 of the girls were the judges and they screamed the loudest for the person they thought was the coolest). We also had a dance contest. Contest prizes were sports bottles with butterflies or peace signs on top of them. I decorated the cake with bright colored icing. It was a large sheet cake (11"x15") with a 12" round cake sitting on top or it. The round cake was a smiley face peace sign. We also served sandwiches, chips & dip, skittles, and Hawaiian Punch with rainbow sherbert in it. We gave the girls inflatable pillows (some were flower shaped, some were clear with feathers in them, and some had stars on them) as their party favors. Everyone had a blast and they all thought it was the coolest party they had ever been to!
