For my sons 6th birthday, we had a Dino Dig. The invitations were very simple. They had a black stegosaurus silhouette on a bright yellow background. On the back it read: You are invited to
come to the archeological site at our street address on party date and time. The plan was to do the party outside but the weather was pretty bad. So we had to transform the garage into a
digging site. I purchased a large poster at Party America showing a cave with prehistorical plants. We made a dino nest out of straw and wood with a sign above it saying "Offerings to
the dino king". This is were the kids could leave their presents. We had saved the giant box our TV came in and filled it half way with sand. Inside we hid geodes (Oriental Trading)
fossil shark teeth (found on a beach in Florida) sea shells (different kinds) and wooden puzzle pieces. (large wooden puzzle we purchased. Put together it makes a T-Rex skeleton)We provided
the kids with small shovels rakes and strainers (all from our sandbox)and a brown paper lunch bag. In small groups the kids dug up the "fossils". Oh we also provided them with
paintbrushes to brush off the sand like real archeologists do. Whenever they found a puzzle piece they had to put it to the side. The other goodies they were allowed to keep in their bag.
While these kids were digging the other kids had their own little excavation. We purchased individual rocks that come with a scraping tool. Inside is a small dinosaur hidden. After all the
puzzle pieces were found the kids worked together (under the supervision and with the help of my husband) to put the T-Rex skeleton together. That was our sons birthday present from us. it
sits in his dino bedroom now. After all this excavating we were ready for cake. My friend baked the cutest cake and decorated it with dino eggs (chocolate Easter eggs) trees and 2 plastic
dinosaurs. We opened the presents and that completed the party. The tresures they dug up were the goodie bags. The party lasted exactly 2 hours."
