My toddler is obsessed with dinosaurs and insisted on having a dino party. His birthday was in August so we centered the party around our backyard. The colors we chose were lime green, orange and royal blue.  For invitations I printed the following using my scrapbook program: GET READY FOR A ROARING GOOD TIME! (Child's name) is turning (age) . . .and he is inviting you to his DINO-MITE birthday party!!! Join us at our cave: (address) then date and time.  Give us a ROOOAAAR and let us know if you can attend.  ** We will be having food for the herbivore and carnivore!   For decorations, we tied balloons all around our yard in the party colors.  I found a dinosaur foot print on the internet and traced it onto green, orange and blue construction paper and placed the dino prints coming up our driveway into the backyard so guests knew where to go. At the beginning of the driveway and entrance to our backyard, we placed DINO CROSSING" signs.  To create the signs we printed out the words "DINO CROSSING" on the computer and found a cool picture of a T-Rex dino and then glued all of this onto brightly colored poster board and stapled the poster board onto wooden yard stakes. The signs helped the guests find our house as they came down the street. We also used various party banners (with dinosaurs) found at the local dollar store to finish off the decorations.  Party food consisted of "dino dogs" (hot dogs) for the carnivores fruit salad and veggies for the herbivores chips with dip and cheese cubes. I make cakes so I decorated a cake with a dinosaur theme. For candles I found cute little dinosaurs.  Games included a dino dig. I purchased "dinosaur eggs" from the local dollar store (these were eggs that dissolved in water to reveal a dinosaur that would get large if left to soak for a period of time in the water). We have a mulch pit in our backyard so we used some yellow caution tape to isolate the area and buried the eggs. Each kid was given a shovel to dig for an egg. I made flags with each child's name on it to mark where they should dig.  They loved getting dirty!!  Another game was a dino toss. I used a template of a stegosaurus from the computer and purchased multiple colors of felt (each child got a color).  I then traced the stegosaurus onto the 2 pieces of felt cut out the dino used a fabric glue to seal the edges (leaving a slight opening) and allowed to dry.  After it was dry I stuffed beans into the cut-out and then glued the opening shut securing this glued opening with a clothes pin until dry.  I then purchased a tomato cage and clipped of the bottom tips (that would go into the ground).  I used a black trash bag to cover the tomato cage and created a volcano.  For added effects I used more red felt to create lava dripping down the sides. Each child took turns attempting to throw their bean bag dinos into the hot lava volcano.  This turned out to be more fun than I thought! They wanted to do it over and over!! At a small table I placed wood cut-outs of various dinosaurs that I found at the craft store. Each child got to paint a dinosaur to take home with them. I purchased larger plastic dinosaurs and hid them throughout the yard. Each child got to seek out a dinosaur and take it home with them.  Finally the kids got to play in the pool and water table. For added fun I placed plastic dinosaurs in ice cube trays and made dinosaur ice cubes to represent the ice age. The kids had a ball cooling off while playing with the ice cubes in the pool and water table.  For party favors I got various trinkets from the dollar store and oriental trader (IE. bubbles punch balloons crazy straws candy stickers beach balls etc.) and made paper mache dinosaur eggs as the goodie bads. To create the dinosaur egg I inflated a 9" latex balloon and used strips of construction paper dipped in paper mache glue from the craft store (make sure you get the kind that will dry hard).  To make sure the dinosaur eggs were sturdy I coated the balloons a second time after the construction paper dried.  After the second coat dries pop the balloon inside and you have a dinosaur egg.  Place your goodies inside and stuff the opening with colored tissue paper. The kids and parents loved them.   The party lasted 2.5 hours and each activity kept the kids moving so they did not lose interest which was great for a 3 year old. As an added touch check your local library for dinosaur themed music and play in the background as the party is under way. "
