I incorporated a lot of different ideas, including some that I found on this website, so hope that my idea might help someone else out who's planning their child's birthday party. My son was turning 3 and is in a major dinosaur mode, so we had a dinosaur-themed birthday party for me, starting with blue spotted dinosaur invitations from www.paperstyle.com. We invited everyone to a dino-mite birthday party and said Do'nt be extinct. RSVP to C's prehistoric parents.."  When our 12 guests arrived for the party we folded two strips of posterboard accordian-style and then glued a small green construction paper dinosaur on the strips. We closed the card hole-punched it on the outside and tied the card shut with ribbon so that when you opened it the dinosaur sprang out. We gave the kids glue sticks glitter glue feathers crayons Magic markers dinosaur stencils dinosaur stickers and dinosaur rubber stamps and had them each decorate their own individual dinosaur egg. When they were finished we hung the drying paper eggs to dry on a clothesline we had strung up. We then cleared away the arts and crafts materials and got ready for our second activity--chocolate chip cookie excavation. Each child received a plastic safari/explorer hat (from www.alltherightstuff.com) a magnifying glass (OTC) a chocolate chip cookie toothpicks plastic spoons and knives and wooden skewers and were asked to dig the chocolate chips out of the cookie. The kids really enjoyed this activity especially the eating of the cookies! When the children finished the cookie excavation I handed them each a small handled craft paper bag decorated with dinosaur stickers. The next activity was a dinosaur egg hunt. I purchased 72 plastic eggs from OTC and hid them throughout our apartment and the children filled their bags with the eggs. When they had finished this I handed them each a plastic dinosaur head/egg filled with jellybeans (OTC) and marked on the back with a number 1-12. We then had the children hit a dinosaur pinata (OTC) filled with candy (Smarties lollipops candy bracelets chocolate "dinosaur" eggs)--their number on the egg denoted when it was their turn to step up to the pinata. The last activity was storytime. As part of their birthday favors I gave them each a copy of the board book How Do Dinosaurs Play With Their Friends? (I love this series) and the children followed along in their books as we sat in a circle and I read to them.  After storytime it was time for cake and singing Happy Birthday. I had ordered an assortment of cupcakes for the children and topped each one with a dinosaur candle.  For decorations we ordered a dinosaur door cover and dinosaur paper goods (plates napkins cups) from OTC. We also got 2 dozen orange and green balloons. Finally we took all of my son's plastic dinosaur figurines and placed them all over our apartment as well as put all of his dinosaur books out.  The party was in the afternoon so before it was caketime we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and cream cheese and jelly sandwiches cut into dinosaur shapes with cookie cutters pigs-in-blankets and a fruit and cheese platter along with juice boxes small bottles of water and Danimals smoothies.   As party favors the children took home their gift bags stuffed with the dinosaur eggs from the egghunt candy from the pinata and the board book. I had also included some small dinosaur figurines some squishy dinosaurs and a dinosaur rubber stamp (OTC). When they left they also received a small rubber dinosaur ball from Crocodile Creek dinosaur decorated sugar cookies and a balloon. The party was one and a half hours long and all of the activities were age-appropriate and seemed to hold the attention of and be enjoyed by the kids. The party was held in the dead of winter so we needed to keep all of our activities inside. My best resources were www.orientaltradingcompany.com, www.alltherightstuff.com and this website for ideas and party supplies.  "
