Thanks to this web site this was their best Birthday party yet. Gone are the days I plan parties without this site.
The invite: A digital pic of the Birthday boys wearing excavation clothes (Khaki shorts, blue shirts & brown boots)while laying chin in palm on the grass surrounded by toy dinosaurs. Printed in color with wording like this on the reverse side of the pic:Join them for a roar-n good time. Stampede to our nesting grounds for a dinosaur expedition. Location:Cave and Quarry, Main dig from 1-5pm. RSVP to their prehistoric parents. Don't be extinct! Parents and kids wear your dig clothes! I then laminated and cut the invites into egg shapes. Last I covered them with Elmers glue and sand and put them in ziplock bags with a sticker reading: Uncover the enclosed fossil to make an important discovery! On that day...A craft table was set with brown bags and dino stickers/stamps for the kids to decorate their own pinata candy bags. The Games: "Dino stampede"-6" carpet squares on the floor with pictures of dinosaurs taped to each (standing musical chairs). Each time a kid was out, they got to keep a dino picture. "Protect your egg"-A balloon with a small plastic dinosaur toy inside was tied to each kids ankle. On go they had to stomp eachothers egg. When their egg was popped they got to keep the baby dino to raise. A "Dig Site" was set with signs and blankets. Each child had an "excavation kit" with their name on it. In the kit was sand and hidden plastic dinos and fossils. On top of the sand was a little plastic shovel, rake and magnifying glass. "Base camp" was set with signs, small tables/chairs and a T.V. playing The Land Before Time video. It looked like a mini cafe. They all sat and ate dinosaur chicken nuggets, mac-n-cheese and volcano punch (7UP, sherbret icecream & punch). To thank each guest for coming we made paper mache dinosaur eggs and spray painted them with speckle paint. Inside the eggs were a stuffed baby dino, plastic dino toys, dino bandaids, dino snacks and a downloaded dino coloring book with dino facts on the back of each dino picture. The books cover said: Congrats! Excavation Accomplished! Great job fellow paleontologists! We're glad you were here to assist in our dig! We hope you had a dino-mite time! The book was tied together with rafia. A week later hand made T-Rex masks were made out of brown fun foam (just a half circle with two eye holes cut-out and some glued-on white teeth with stretch string on the back). A note was glued on the back of the masks saying:We hope you had a roar-n good time. Thank you for the dino-rific...(whatever gift they gave us). It means a lot to be surrounded by so many loved ones. Please enjoy the attached T-Rex mask and thanks again for joining us in all the fun. A terrific time was had by all.
