We had a DINOSAUR party for my son's third birthday in May. When children arrived, I had dinosaur pictures and crayons so that they could color until everyone arrived. Our first
game was "pin the tail on the dinosaur"---it worked marvelously, and "everyone was a winner!" (Hey, they're only three years old!)
Our next game was the best---we had a "dinosaur egg hunt". I filled about 50 colored, plastic eggs (Easter eggs) full of dinosaur treats. I found lots of little dinosaurs at the 99-cent store, as well as dinosaur stickers. Each egg had something different inside: dinosaurs, dino stickers, jelly beans, etc. Each child got a little bag with his/her name on it and then they went around and "found" the eggs I had hidden and put them in their bags. They loved it! Our meal (lunch) consisted of: PB&J-asaurus sandwiches (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into the shape of dinosaurs using cookie cutters); Dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets (available in the frozen food section at Costco); Dinosaur Bones (pretzel sticks); Fruit-a-saurus salad (fruit salad); Pasta-Raptor Salad (Pasta salad); and Dinosaur Juice (lemonade). The meal was a big hit with the adults and the kids! For dessert I made huge (2' x3') dinosaur shaped cake with candies on top. This great (and not TOO difficult) cake idea came from a Kids Cakes Cookbook. For take-home prizes, each child left with his/her gift bag full of the dinosaur eggs and prizes s/he had found; bubbles; and a homemade dinosaur sugar cookie (with frosting and sprinkles!) that my son had helped me make for his friends the week before. It was a GREAT party, and we didn't spend a lot of money! Things you can do ahead of time to make it easy: I made the PB&J sandwiches and cut them into dino shapes about 2 weeks ahead of time and just froze them in zip-lock bags---I took them out the morning of the party, and they tasted perfect. We also made and froze the dinosaur cookies ahead of time. Enjoy---we did!
