3 year old Dog Party:
As guests entered they say paw prints on the floor leading them from the elevator to the party room. All the children received individual dog collars (made with paw print ribbon and velcro, and having a bone-shaped shrinky dink that we baked for each child with their name on it) and puppy ears, puppy face painting and paw print tattoos on their hands to make the children into puppies. The main attraction was real live puppies (from a local pet shop). We picked small breeds, such as sheltie, eskimo, pomeranian and puggle. The real puppies had birthday hats. The kids got to hold the dogs, walk the dogs and dress them in costume. We put various stations around the room; a large dog house for dramatic play; dog related crafts, such as bone bead bracelets and dog stickers/stamps, for creative time; a big dog poster with the mouth cut out for a bone toss for the more active kids. All the puppies played Dog Trainer Says (like Simon Says, but with commands like sit, bark, chase tail, etc.) Food: Scooby Doo bone shaped graham crackers and bone shaped spree candy on the tables; Hot dogs for lunch (with face and tail stuck on with toothpicks); huge dog house cake (with dog bone candles) and individual pupcakes for dessert. Favors mini dog bowls filled with bone candy, hi bounce ball with puppy picture inside and puppy stickers, all wrapped in paw print cellophane bags with paw print ribbon. Each child also got to take home a balloon dog. It was very cute. All the puppies were dog tired by the end!
