My son enjoyed a Puppy themed party for his 1st birthday.  Because I couldn't find generic puppy party invitations, I decided to make my own. I took brown construction paper and cut it in the shape of a puppy with long ears. I made it so the ears folded up and contained the party information. Inside the ears I put "Join the pack! Samuel is having a birthday party", listed the where, when, etc." I glued a red strip of construction paper to the neck to be the collar and punched a hole in the center.  I took a round paper key tag (found at Wal-mart in the paper section) and attached it through the hole cut into the collar. I then took an aluminum pie pan and used another paper key tag to trace a circle.  I cut the circle out to fit exactly over the round tag.  I then took a pencil and wrote my son's name backwards on the aluminum circle, making sure to press hard as if to "engrave" it. I turned it over and had a tag that looked as though it had been engraved with my son's name to serve as the dog tag. I then glued the aluminum tag onto the paper tag and had the cutest puppy invitations with personalized dog tags.   I got a vintage Wilton dog cake pan off of Ebay and baked his cake myself. I also purchased dog bone shaped cookie cutters and decorated the bone cookies for all of the guest to enjoy. (These were a big hit with the adults!) For decorations, I purchased napkins and plates that had a cute little boy's face on them and said "1st birthday" (Birthday Direct). This worked out well and made the theme become more of a "little boy with his puppy" theme.  I pulled the colors of blue and green from the little boy napkins and plates and decorated with blue and green balloons and streamers. Because I also couldn't find generic puppy balloons, I found a way to make them myself by taking plain white balloons, filled with helium, and cut out ears, face and nose out of felt and taped them on to each balloon with double stick tape. The kids loved the unique puppy balloons.  I got a matching table cloth of the little boy theme and bought a paw print stamp and stamped the table cloth with black paw prints to add the puppy theme. I had pictures of puppies for each child to color while they were waiting to be served.  While each child was coloring I went around to each one and took their picture with an I-zone camera that prints mini sticker photos. I had simple brown lunch bags already assembled with each child's name on them to serve as goody bags. I stamped the outside with the paw prints and had paw print ribbon to close them. Once each photo was developed, it was attached to the child's bag and served as another dog tag. Inside each bag was a bone cookie, a stuffed animal (puppies purchased at the local dollar store) and a miniature puppy book.  We limited activities and made the party short because most children were under 2 years old, but the highlight of the party was the goody bag which we handed out while our son was opening his presents so all the kids could have something to play with.
