My daughter wanted a dog" themed birthday party.
I used a combination of ideas from this great website. The invitations said "Sit...Stay...Come! to Cate's 6th birthday party". I ordered 7 inch stuffed dogs from someone I found on ebay. They were excellent quality and ended up being about $5 each including shipping. I was able to get a big variety of dogs this way. When the girls arrived they drew a number to find out which puppy was theirs. They received an adoption certificate which I pre-printed and they named their puppy. They decorated shrinky dink dog tags first so I could bake them right away. Make sure that you punch a hole in the top of the tags before you bake them. While they were baking the girls made beaded collars for their puppies with pre-cut stretchy cord. They finished the collars off with their own decorated dog tags which turned out really well. Next they decorated their puppy's dog house (white gable boxes like at build-a-bear). I got the boxes from Oriental Trading. They used colored pencils stickers and fun foam. I had pre-drawn the roof wooden boards and dog house opening so they would have some uniformity. We played a few games like dog dog cat (duck duck goose) while I got their dinner ready. They had hot dogs chips and strawberries. She opened her gifts. Instead of a cake they had ice cream and bone-shaped sugar cookies served in dog bowls. I found some really inexpensive small dog bowls at Ikea. The party was a huge success. The girls all went home with their adopted puppies dog houses and dog bowls. Several of the moms later told me that the puppy had become their daughter's "special" stuffed animal. I thought I would pass this party on to others because I couldn't have done it without ideas I got from this website! Thanks and good luck!"
